the issue of junk content and the value of being able to read sources critically is a huge issue right now. ai only aggravates a trend already well underway, imo.

Thank you very much for the great interview! It was enjoyable to listen. I believe tomorrow's memory interface has different requirements. In the future, storage devices should already be structured as associative memory. This would eliminate the need for address/data flow, and the data itself would function as dynamic addresses depending on the previous content of the memory. Like a digital brain. The CPU/GPU is no longer the bottleneck at en-/decoding the datastructure of associative organized information.

Thank you, it will be interesting to see how this next chapter of memory interfaces unfolds. Thank you for your interesting insights!

Hi mad_circuts, I agree for some parts, but I think, that memory interfaces are just splitting up in different use cases. - The one that you describe with some limited amount of needed memory (e. g. what we see today with in smartphones with an SoC and DRAMs on top). - What is today LPDDR/GDDR/HBM usage with multiple components will still have some of the old limitations (also the interface might look different) and will serve applications with some medium size Memory requirements (i count notebook type applications to this one). - And last but not least i think there will be always applications that just need huge amount of memory (todays server), where it is not possible to bring the memory close enough to the CPU/GPU. In the past most of these applications have been served by commodity DRAM. Today we see the split into these three classes already, but I expect "use case optimized memory" getting much more important in the future. Maybe this can be seen as the “normal” hierarchical pyramid with very fast but small memory (Cache), and the bigger the memory gets it is getting slower (until it reaches SSD, HDD and finally still Tape application). Personally, I do not care so much about the interfaces (even I am an SI guy). I am more curious about the technologies behind. Will NVM (e. g. flash) in some point in time really replace DRAM? Or is MRAM or resistive RAM the technology to do so? Hermann

The issue is that the Education system isn't about sharing truth. Let me cook here for a second (primegan reference - Netflix coder on twitch tv)... In schools and KZbin educators we are only taught water model electronics, even wickapedia has a section on this. Water model electronics is how most people think about electricity and its disturbing to me. One educator broke this mold, Derek of Veritasium. How electricity really works and his follow up video. Showing poynting and the maxwell-havyside equations that explains the EM energy and how it propergates though space. I was amazed that the electron from the power station never reached my home. 🔋--> 🏡 Derek referenced Rick Hartley, and The Science Asylum KZbin on ElectroDynamics. This explains how Electricity flows down the conduits to the device you want to Electrically power. I really blame the water model and the majority of teachers who push this flawed ideology in to Adults. This is why, even newly finished EE's talk about voltage and current, like that matters. The lumped sum elements are easy to talk about, maybe even easier to teach. But ... Finding out that Electricity is the same as Sun 🌞 light at a different frequency is far more exciting than any water model could be to me. I'm the minority here, every programming discord server or PCB discord server and even the EEVBlog (Our Aussie friend) were insistent that the water model is great 👍 It's a lie and fellow EE's are lying to anyone seeking knowledge. Rick Hartley references Fast Circuits (book) from his late friend, Ralph. I'm glad to find another interview with Rick and I will try and search for his lecturers on his up coming or past conferences. I'm always happy to learn more about the wonders of electricity ⚡️

@mdrezaulkarim47 It's important that we focus on one key area of engineering, and then gain some basic skills and understanding around other disciplines like software, mechanical, etc. In the process, you can gain some direction from your upstream and downstream design and development stakeholders. You aren't alone in missing that subject in your education, Chris! It is a widespread gap among most engineers. If you can find a PCB fabricator that has helpful application or front engineers, they will gladly get you up to speed. Plus--its a VERY interesting tour to walk through a shop and see how PCBs are made. This is common practice and one most board shops will be happy to do!

The biggest thing I learned from covid was just how much all the little distractions of the office got in the way of my productivity. When I interact with my peers working remotely we focus on the project at hand and I'm in my comfort zone and dealing with subjects that I have expertise in. As a young engineer I think any feeling of inadequacy comes from comparing myself with my peers. I'm comfortable not measuring up to senior engineers and gurus: I'm not competing with them I'm learning from them, of course I don't measure up. It's interesting hearing the different lessons different people learned from the covid experience. I was surprised by a lot of my colleagues not only for what they excelled at, but also for what specific little things they struggled with. Lovely conversation, cheers!
