I've been using the Kindle Fire 8 as an ereader at home for quite a few years now. I even bought a Fire 7 a year or so ago to take to the office or wherever. It's really not much bigger than my Paperwhite Signature. The battery life isn't as good as a Paperwhite, but I just charge it when I charge my phone.

So I have an old 2016 kindle fire hd 8 that belonged to my daughter. Charged it up cleaned it out of all her old books and apps. It works perfectly but the Battery is trash!! Can it be replaced? I do want to upgrade one day but what can I do to hold out a little longer?

They're entirely different types of products. An alternative would be a competitor with a color eInk screen. They're entirely different experiences and eInk is better on the eyes.

Can you disable everything else and make it more of a dedicated e-reader so it’s better for people who are easily distracted? I had to get a kindle and put my phone in another room away from me to do any serious reading. Now my adult son wants one too but he reads a lot of graphic novels so would prefer the bright colors of a tablet vs the colored e-readers but he’s as easily distracted as I am I would like to figure out how to hack it and make it more of a dedicated, distraction-free, e-reader.

A Kindle with color is definitely a niche market, but personally I would opt for it over a tablet screen any day. Working remotely at a computer for 8 hours a day really puts strain on my eyes and as someone who suffers from frequent headaches the e-ink screen of a kindle is a huge relief after 8 hours of bright light from a screen. If I read comics/magazines more often and if I didn't have a Paperwhite already I would have absolutely jumped on the Colorsoft. I'm glad it's an option and hope battery life improves even more in future iterations so I can justify an upgrade.

I saw your previous video. This was a helpful and informative. The Fire 8 is a perfect size but it was too heavy for me. I have RSI (repetitive stress injury) in my right wrist. So I opted for the Fire 7. Then I heard about the new Kindle Color Soft. I’m happy with the form factor of my tablet.

Not a alternate at all. You can't read outside in the sun battery life is not even half.

You're so right about the Kindle Fire! It is a great little tablet and a steal when on sale. I use it for email, shopping, watching youtube, and on and on and on.

I had a kindle fire forever and used it all the time. I would be using it today if the wifi chip didn't break.

If anybody out there is even thinking about replacing an e-ink device with an LCD or OLED: Try reading books on your phone. And if that sucks, I guarantee you it will suck even more if you've paid 50 bucks to get the same disappointing experience on an even bigger screen. E-readers are a product category of their own for good reason and claiming that a tablet can replace them is at best misleading. But welcome to the "get clicks by mentioning the Colorsoft" train!

I like the kindle fire, but the homescreen is so busy! I don't like how you can't remove the pre installed apps... or organize the screen. Unless I am missing something lol

I hate reading on the kindle, it doesn’t let you continuously scroll and there’s a bright flash every time you turn the page, it drives me nuts so I just put it in the drawer and forgot about it. There are many times I want to read at night in bed but my phone and iPad strain my eyes too much. I think this will be a great option for me. I got the clear case too, I can’t wait to make a cute custom backing for it like you did. I’ll have to go back and rewatch your tutorial on how you do that 😍

For real .. I don't think the price of the Kindle Colorsoft ist so high ... First it's a Signiture Edition no other Alternatives have and f.exp. the PocketBook ERA ist also high in price. But Amazon seems to make a like Kaleido 3 Plus with better backround and lights.

I am excited that kindle has a color eink reader. I cant afford it, but in a few years it will probably be the norm. That is what I am looking forward to. The Fire Tablet is a great alternative, I have been very happy with mine. I do perfer to read on my paperwhite, for me the eink is easier for my eyes. I love having the tablet as an option especially if I am reading my son an ebook instead of a physical book.

Do you use both Kindle Unlimited and Everand? I thought you made a video about Everand but I’m not finding it. I currently have a KU subscription and love it but if Everand is better because of the audiobook options I’d consider swapping since they are the same price. Also I’ve just ordered a Fire tablet because I’ve been considering one for a bit to do other things on. Now it’s a no brainer. I love my kindle but like you said you can’t put hoopla or Libby on it or do much else besides read.

I had a Kindle Fire years ago, and I didn't end up doing much reading off it. I also didn't read as much then as I do now, and I didn't really know how to use Hoopla when I had it. Anyhow, I have been considering a Kindle or reading device. I really want one that Hoopla will work with. I don't care so much about the screen being in color. My priorities are: Hoopla and Libby work on it, and the screen doesn't cause eye fatigue.

I didn't even know they came out with a Color version of the Kindle. I don't even use the Fire, I prefer the Paperwhite because I get sooo distracted with reading from anything that resembles a tablet. It's why I couldn't read on my tablet lol. The paper white resembles a book best and keeps it mostly at that so it helps me stay focused. The Fire looks great though for those who prefer color. The Colorsoft kinda sounds like the same thing as the Fire actually, it's just new so more expensive. Great video and it's so interesting that you collect kindles.

Cider Shop Rules is so fun! I'm soooooo picky with cozy mysteries (I actually started and DNFd a bunch so far this fall 🤭🤭🤭) but I ADORE how autumnal that series is - the writing is also pretty great compared to other cozies.

The Rose Arbor sounds so good! I love books that feature evacuating of kids due to WW2 in England! I think you would enjoy the Royal Spyness books just for some fun and light easy reading!! There is some crude humour but it doesn't go too far for me, just a side character that likes to joke about sex which can get annoying but thankfully it's not too much (in my opinion). Otherwise such a fun series!!!

I too had an alcoholic mom and a schizophrenic sister and all of us children were taken away from mom after she left my dad for abusing her and put into foster care. Mom, dad, and my sister have all passed away. What I would like to share with you is what the Bible says about what happens to people when they die. I remember how my family believed and still believe that when you die, you go to heaven and get a new body after death, but this is not what the Bible says. Please go back to Genesis chapter 1:26-31. Then go to Genesis chapter 2:7 that says: And the LORD GOD formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. Genesis 2:21 says: And the LORD GOD caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up his flesh instead thereof; 22: And the rib, which the LORD GOD had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. 23: And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Genesis 3:19 says: In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return. According to Psalm 115:17 The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence. According to Ecclesiastes 9:5, it says: For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not anything, neither have they any more of a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. 6: Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun. John chapter 11 is about Lazarus who was a dear friend of Jesus, who died due to being ill. And 11:25-26 says about Jesus: Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life, he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? Stacy as you continue to read John chapter 11, you will find out why Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead after he died. I remember you saying that the church that you and family were attending did not teach you about repentance from sin, as there are many churches that don't teach you about what really happens when a person dies. God admonishes us to study for ourselves according to 2 Timothy 2:15-16 it says: Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
