Is it possible to have a tension haemothorax? If it’s just blood then there isn’t a one way valve like affect you get in tension pneumothorax.

Hi @cassit01, my understanding is that the precursor ‘tension’ is used in both pneumothorax and haemothorax when the presence of that pathology results in haemodynamic compromise as a result of mediastinal displacement. In a tension pneumothorax its due to pneumatic pressure as a result of air leak in the presence of a one way value. In haemothoarx it is purely due to the considerable mass effect it can exert.
