Hey there, I am a bicycle mechanic and work for the manufacturer Tout Terrain which focuses on touring bikes. Therefor we offer most of our bikes with a belt. The bike closest to the Priority 600X is the "Outback". I can't understand your argument you made about the difficulty of taking off the rear wheel and the need for tensioning it afterwards. I honestly don't want to sound mean. There is no easier system taking off and putting your rear wheel back into the frame than with a belt, since there is no derailleur constantly putting the chain under tension, especially when not having shifted into the lowest gear on a chain drive, which then pulls on your sprocket, shifting your wheel mich makes it difficult to align straight into the frame. You literally loosen the axle and take the wheel out a few cm until you can comfortably and without much force take the belt of the sprocket and that's literally it, it should be done in 10 seconds. Should that take any and I mean ANY force at all to take off the belt from the sprocket you either set the belt under too much tension or the rear frame design and dropouts are shit. For putting the wheel back in, just reverse the process... It should not be necessary to retention the belt as you don't have to loosen it (shorten the distance between the dropouts and the front chainring) in the first place. The only time you will have to tension your belt is after the first 500km where and then only after thousands of kilometers if you notice the tension is low. You might want to take a look at our solution for tensioning the belt since that only takes few minutes and you can't accidentally set your wheel in at an angle.

Is that type of mud riding really what this bike is intended for, I realize that when bike packing there are unknowns but geez the amount of mud in that drivetrain 😂😂

My son have the 600x for almost a year and got lots of mud but for short periods, like about 90 minutes and the belt never have come off. I’ve done only 2 maintenance, I’ve fix the tire from flats twice and decided to change to betters tires and the other maintenance is hosing the belt to remove the mud and that’s all. Now I want to buy the 600adx when it goes on sale for myself, I’m loving the low maintenance

I would question if this guy set up his bike properly from the beginning. The adjustments are different than a derailleur and you need to be proficient with this drive system instead of just complaining about the bike.

The maintenance isn't hard. Based on your review, and how you talk about bikes, you know little about how to work on a bike. The belt doesn't need to be retensioned when the wheel is removed. Also, the app works. It's what Gates themselves use. You don't know what you're talking about.

Glad I stumbled onto this. I was wondering how I could make my car more comfortable to sleep in and I did fold my back seats down, but taking them out would probably help out and make things a lot easier. Awesome. :D

You rode in the southwest North American wet clay, with an Eastern mindset. 4:21 There is no way you can engineer a drivetrain to ride that hell broth and it is foolish to try. Your analysis is predicated on faulty facts and is therefore invalid.

The problems with mud would be an issue with any bike. And you were changing the tire wrong. This is a hardtail mountain bike not a gravel bike. It's slower because its capable of more.

You need to tighten your belt if it comes off from mud. Actually you can over-tighten it temporarily to help it clean off.

The belt does not need to be re-tensioned every time that the rear wheel is removed. You are creating unnecessary work for yourself if you start messing with the belt tension. This is covered in Priority's flat repair video for the bike: kzbin.info/www/bejne/b365apavjJqra5I The Gates app can be tricky to use in a loud environment, but has worked fine for me.

Bikes are in rapid transition now and new tech is a really bad investment. The old inexpensive drives are very reliable and work much better than I would have thought. I have several bikes, and if the drives are maintained they do great.

Thanks for the honest review. Though, I haven't ever had a flat tire that wasn't related to me letting the sealant dry out.

I think at this point, traditional chains are better. I also think belts might actually work really well. They would be very quiet. They would also be light. If the pulleys are straight, the belt doesn't need pulley guides. If there is mud, pulley guides would help.

I'm really interested to see how belt drive systems are going to be re-engineered to be better. I think we are seeing just the beginning of these systems.

That was eye opening. I have a belt drive Trek Soho that I really like for the lack of having to clean and lubricate a chain and its whisper quiet operation. I have Continental Gatorskin Hardshell 32mm and have never had a flat (no goat heads here). I have had to remove the rear wheel but it wasn't bad getting tension correct. I can see if it was multiple times in one ride it would be a pain. I'm still considering a Rolhoff or Pinion belt system for an expedition buke build, but appreciate hearing some downsides. Thanks

@smileyoutdoors4872 5 ай бұрын
Beautiful bike! Let me know how the Rolhoff goes if you go that route. If your going for an expedition bike in Colorado just consider going with additional puncture resistance and sealant for a bike that can handle anything .
