King Crimson played it like this live as opposed to the album version. Always with a long and skillful display of drum prowess at the beginning. This IS the original way of playing Indiscipline, the album version is secondary.

I saw Crimson encore with this tune a number of times in 1982-84. Always brought down the house, as I'm sure this did two nights ago.

Wow. I've been watching clips of this band since they opened the tour in September, and they have really gelled. I couldn't really watch much of the first week or two, didn't tune in for a few weeks, and then I watched your clips. This show is an absolute rager! I decided early on to pass on this tour, but just changed my mind. Thanks for the uploads.

Vai seems to be really growing into the band. He sounds so much more assertive (and great!) in playing his style of guitar, as opposed to early in the tour when he seemed to timidly stick mostly to the Fripp parts.

Yeah, Carey has seemed comfortable from day one of the tour (as opposed to Vai, who took a few weeks to grow into his role).

Thanks for your comment! It was a fantastic show. I captured several other tunes also - both encores Red (this one blew me away) and Thela Hun Ginjeet; Heartbeat and Dig Me from Set 1; and also The Sheltering Sky and Elephant Talk from the second set.

I was there. 16th row back on the left on the floor. Got some great shots and a few video clips with an advanced Lumix point and shoot. During the encore I went right up to the stage and got some super nice shots with that camera. That was an unbelievable concert. Says the guy who saw King Crimson live in 1971 and both Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix in 1970 and Emerson Lake and Palmer 10 times over the years. guess that is the only advantage of being in my early 70's.

I was there last night. Funny that the videos sound better than the room did at the time. Are they intentionally mixing for cell phones?
@DaveGordon61
@DaveGordon61 Ай бұрын
Thanks! I thought the sound was a little boomy first couple tubes, but improved as the sound guys "read the room." I was up in the balcony. "Heartbeat" was my first video of the night. I also shot "Dig Me" in the first set. The second set sounded better to my ears from a sonic standpoint, and I shot "The Sheltering Sky," "Elephant Talk" (both already published), "Indiscipline" and the encores "Red" and "Thela Hun Ginjeet."
@DarrinSnider
@DarrinSnider Ай бұрын
@DaveGordon61 Yeah, I'm thinking we were about 20 feet to your right based on the angles. I got about 30 seconds of Red and Sleepless to send to a buddy, and that sound was also better than I was hearing. I assume the lower level fared better. My ears were ringing at the end of the night. Still, loved the show.

A friend posted a snippet of this one from the Pittsburgh show on Facebook. I immediately recognized and commented "ahh, The Sheltering Sky." He responded "no, the Sheltering Vai!!" I have never seen Steve Vai before - I was impressed. He seemed a little subdued in the first set but he was shredding all through the second set.
