SKT? Personally I'd have to start with Donaldson, and still be motivated to do the higher Church, the other way around would be mentally tougher
@mmoutdoors1Ай бұрын
I felt that if I could accomplish the tougher one, I knew Donaldson would be much easier to do. I can make arguments for doing it either way tho. I wanted to make sure I had enough daylight hours to do church first as well And SKT meaning “slowest known time” 😂 as opposed to “FKT”

Are the regulations for backpackers different for floater? Fires not in fire pans is a big no no. Did you have to check in with the ranger at Corn Creek before you started on the trail?
@mmoutdoors16 ай бұрын
I don’t believe there are any regulations on hikers as of April. You don’t need a permit for hiking, which I believe is required for floating. I also don’t think you have to check in with the ranger but she kindly came up to me and chatted and asked if she wanted to take my name down just in case I didn’t make it back for some reason. And ground fires are permitted in the Frank per the NF website just make sure to follow local bans/regulations.
@804486813 күн бұрын
From the Main Salmon River regulations: "Fires must be built in a firepan. Carry out ashes." It would make no sense to have different rules for floaters and hikers. With the heavy use the river experiences, the goal is to keep camping areas as pristine as possible and to prevent wildfires.
@mmoutdoors113 күн бұрын
This is referring to the Middle Fork of the Salmon River. There are tighter and stricter regulations on that section of the river due to its wildness/remoteness and popularity. Thanks for watching

Thanks! The Bitterroot’s are amazing! Extremely rugged example of the Rocky Mountains. Deep valleys and tall peaks. This hike, for us anyway, was all about the destination. Views from the top are incredible but it’s a steep rather dull forest hike up. If we were to do it again we would likely take the Baker Lake alternate
@lezo9429 Жыл бұрын
I was up there back in 8/2018. it was smoky due to forest fire. Your view is much better. I think this climb is the hardest day-hike (no overnight camping).
@mmoutdoors1 Жыл бұрын
Major bummer getting smoked out on this one. At least the views down around the mountain itself are absurd. It’s a great challenging dayhike!

@@mmoutdoors1 Man! The gpx track I was following was definitely a death march. Got lost in the bushwhack, kept looking for the trail. By the time I got out of the weeds it was getting late and I drank up a good portion of my water. Had to turn back. Super solitary indeed when you leave the Blanca Lake trail. Next year I will shoot again, but I'm going to camp out at that meadow where you can see Glacier.

Huh wonder why we decided to look at the Lake now. I love the Lakes in WA. BEEHIVE, CLEAR LAKE, LAKE CHARLES, and so many more. I love fishing off the dock of the Bay in Pudget Sound, or taking a Fairy to Port Angeles to dig up shrimp in the sand. The Green worms freaked me out. On one end the worm opens up and has 2 tiny black looking curved pinchers that will grab your finger. It hurts to. Be careful how you pick them up. Good resource for fishing flounder/sole or sea perch off the pilings of the docks at Mukilteo bay.Bay. in Everett, Wa

I've done this one in reverse, I don't ever want to come DOWN P3 again. ;). Cool clouds! Crampons (aluminium) - probably not needed but an ice ax would have make this a bit more "comfy".
@mmoutdoors12 жыл бұрын
Yeah I think the ice axe would’ve been some insurance, at least mentally. The snow was mostly soft and sloppy tho. And yeah P3 coming down would be tough on the legs! Straight to the point lol

Can’t beat a swim mid hike on a hot summer day!! Thanks man. Get out there and do it! It’s beautiful up there. I had considered adding dragon trail to this day but at this time there was a steep snowfield I wasn’t prepared for. I’m sure it’s mostly gone now 👍

I went up last Monday (22AUG) and followed your GPS track - except for when I got overconfident and got off track. It was super helpful! I'd taken an attempt once last year but ran out of time. Significantly less snow and more sun when I went, but the sketchy rock was the same. Such great views, but wore me out! Up in 5:45 and down in 4:00. Never did find the summit register but I have the photos and bushwhacking scars to prove it haha.
