I hold SCHD and DGRO. If I could only pick one, it'd have to be SCHD. I really like the screening process of SCHD. The screening process of any ETF is really what you're paying that expense ratio for. Everyone always says to "understand what you're investing in", but seldom does anyone talk about how a given ETF comes up with their holdings and allocations. The returns are a direct result of the screening process they use. COWZ is another ETF with a screening process I really like. It's not a dividend ETF, but instead screens companies on several factors- mainly free cash flow. It seems to compliment SCHD and DGRO pretty well for my purposes.

I have the capital one poor man’s travel trifecta: Venture One, Savor, Quicksilver. Yes you can get more than two cards.
@thefrugalexpat7 күн бұрын
In the past, Capital One had a rule for only two personal cards per person. This just means they could be changing their internal rules. It is like the Chase 5/24 rule. It is not written anywhere, but some people may be able to get a Chase card even if it is their 6th card in 24 months.
@TheMrwright18 күн бұрын
Does the two card limit include co-branded cards?
@thefrugalexpat8 күн бұрын
Capital One can be a bit strange. There are people that say, you can have only 2 no annual fee cards and one Venture card, so it is all about if you are eligible. If you have held the cards for years they may be willing to give you an extra. There are plenty of people that have more than 2, but Capital One does have its internal rules. I always say try to see if you are eligible with their tool. Many credit experts do talk about the two card rule.

It's been debunked with several forms having anecdotal evidence that they're able to get multiple cards from capital one

What is your favorite cash back credit card?
@TheMrwright18 күн бұрын
My favorite cash back card is my CFU because I move points to my CSR for travel. "Boring" card but great in my set up and a value Chase points.
@thefrugalexpat6 күн бұрын
@@TheMrwright1 The CFU is a great one! I hold it in my wallet too! It gets 3x points on many items and then 1.5x points on everything else. Great boring credit card. I just wish UR points could transfer to some other airline partners, but they do have Hyatt for their hotels!

It's not the absolute best card, but it is the best for a majority of people (if they can get approved for it) as a single card setup. And at best a Duo with the Savor. I think Mark Reese did a comparison awhile back showing that just the Venture X alone, netted 85-90% return on spend compared to multi-card setup. There's also just a peace of mind doing a single card setup, easy to manage the bill and track spending.
@thefrugalexpat18 күн бұрын
If the card had the benefits of the Savor card, it would be hands down the only card I would use. Now, I use the Savor card for groceries and dining, and the Venture X for almost everything else. I need to check out that Mark Reece Video. Thanks for the suggestion.

What are your favorite ways to save money while traveling?
@desireeyoung620526 күн бұрын
Have never enjoyed cooking and eating at home. It tastes better out. I can usually make one meal last for 2. Work provides snacks, fruits and gym. No subscriptions except internet and cell phone. I cut out cable and have no streaming services. I watch antenna TV and belong to a book club that we meet once a week and talk about what we read. I have used furniture and used car and refurbished cell phone from Black Market. No riding a bike 26 miles from one city to another city and dying in Houston.
@thefrugalexpat26 күн бұрын
I love the Antenna! I got one in 2016 to cut out cable, and the image quality was way better when watching sports than the cable subscription I had. Riding a bike 26 miles is no bueno. What are your favorite frugal habits?

Compounding is hard because it requires a human trait hard to master…patience 😂
@thefrugalexpat28 күн бұрын
My dad always said, "patience is a virtue." Time is everything in compounding. We always want to go to the max in a day, but it takes time. You cannot get abs and be ripped after a week in the gym, it takes months to get in great shape.

if you don't want to drive thru, drive home DURING PEAK HOUR on the FAST LANE (nobody's going fast during peak hour and the car tuna can means that it's harder to switch lanes when the impulses get stronger and stronger the closer we get to where we know those fast food joints are!). Stay frugal people!

Thanks for the comment. I wrote an article about it four years ago in 2020. I guess I should have used the old Hindu version, where the king asked the creator of Chess what he wanted as a reward. He wanted a grain a rice, but would double for each square on the Chess board. At the end, the inventor came to the king wanting his reward. Half way through the board would have been the amount of rice the whole kingdom possessed. It is interesting, that many of my friends have not heard of the double penny so I used that one instead of rice.
