You are a fantastic group of young folks bringing true design iterations and help to someone in need. This is a great presentation, and I hope you all move forward with your interest in design and helping people improve their everyday lives. I'm proud to see you making a difference in the world!

I'm trying to use this tutorial to make a folding tray with compartments on the inside. Once the halves are split can I just make a sketch on each side and add the compartments? Or should I do each side in a different file then join them together in a separate assembly file?
@weareprintlab
@weareprintlab 9 күн бұрын
Yes with Fusion you can do all this within the same workspace - no need for separate assembly files. Feel free to email your final design to [email protected] and we can check it over for you.

I would recommend only modelling half of the box. It will save a bunch of clicks, and also allow the sketches to be cleaner. In general, a good rule is: Never mirror at the sketch level if you don't have to. Always mirror at the body level if you can. Also, at 4:19, you have a line directly over the top of another line, which is not good practice IMHO - instead you should have split the existing line into two

Hi there! At the moment we only offer the files for people to 3D print. If you know anyone with a 3D printer (check out local libraries/makerspaces), you can send them the link to the files - www.printables.com/model/753450-drag-assistive-writing-and-drawing-device. If you are based in the US/Canada, you can check out www.makersmakingchange.com/s/, who 3D print devices for free via their volunteer network. Hope that helps :)

Are you using DIY kits or you have your own way of growing? I want to try it without ordering anything,just getting the products myself.

Hi there! For this project, we used the kits from grown.bio/. You can certainly experiment with growing mycelium from scratch though!

Hi there! We reached out to the designers and here is the response: We used a .25" bar stock (a pen or pencil would work too but having a long bar at least 18" is key to spreading things out.) then made a really long spring and cut it to fit. We just used a heat gun and took our time, it took a few attempts before we figured it out. The coil spacing was the key, make sure to keep the coils spread out a bit it seemed to work best.

Rob. Thank you very much for sharing your idea. I'm from Brazil and I have a son with cerebral palsy. I'm already 3D printing the DRAG, I believe this will help us a lot with it. We need more people like you to make a better world. Count on me to test and print more parts, let's help more people together.

What 3D print filaments are suitable for making the cast mould for the mycelium to grow in?

We used PLA for our moulds and they worked fine - just remember to give them a wipe with ethanol first :)

actually pretty useful, but how much harder was it to play chess without a visual of the board?

Hi there! We're not in touch with the designers anymore but that's a good question and we're sure it would take a lot of practice. The full sighted play could also play without the blindfold :)

beautiful work! thank you for sharing the iterative steps and detailing the design considerations. Excellent work by the original young designers of the Perfect Pencil Placer! I'd love to try out the model with our assistive device users at our little makerspace in Singapore, are the models shared?

Thank you very much for the kind words! Yes the designers of the Perfect Pencil Placer were really amazing. We're not sure how they achieved so much in just a couple of days! And yes the models will be shared soon. We are just doing some final checks and creating the open-source documentation for it. We'll comment back here once it is available :)
