As a young potter I was lucky enough to be around George Curttis at Littlethorpe pottery just south of Ripon Yorkshire and worked at Wetheriggs pottery in Westmorland (now Cumbria) .Both made Panchions and used traditional pan rings for Kiln furnature .. Mr Harris at Wrecklsham nr Farnham did the rolled rim the way you are doing it but the northerners just left a lot of clay for that rim .. Because all the strength needed to be in that ring for suspending the pot on the pan rings .. Your clay looks great .. Thanks for the nice video .. .I use my throwing stonware slop (mostly Goldart) for my white slip on the redart pans .. All the best frpm New England , Guy

Hello MAry .. as a flowerpot maker I use easily half a ton a week .Pots start at 2 pounds and go up to 60 pounds (36 +24 sections pots ) Years ago I just made up my clay in a Bluebird Mixer and finished with the Bluebird Pug .. At 73 I am having Sheffield make my clay bodies (a little silicosise ) and am just using the Bluebird pug for the stoneware(White Flowerpots) and hand working the red 25 pound pugs from Sheffield . The boxed clay mixing leaves the clay a bit un humoginus and for bigger pots I need the clay wetter than somone throwing a 3 pound pitcher so I add slop. I am guessing the bigger Peter Pug will help me in adding a little slop and getting the body a little softer . I average around 300 pounds an afternoon .. The question is will this reclaming pug used in this way put out the quanties we need . I see they also have a 30 pound hopper and a 60 pound hopper (I am guessing that is what the # is about .. All the best from Bantam Ct .. Yours in clay Guy

@@guywolff gosh, that’s a lot of clay. I think if I was going through 300 lbs of clay at a throw session I would opt for a large machine like the vpm 60. I have the vpm 20 but no one here is going through that kind of poundage.🦊

@@charlesscallia7705 Hi Charles, first, wonderful to hear that you would like to add to your pottery collection with a 🦊 fox piece. I sell my work through my website but you need to contact me through the site to purchase as there is no check out for the pottery. I will be adding a checkout in a few weeks but it will be for books, cards and tee shirts only. www.maryfoxpottery.ca 😊

Thanks so much Mary for the tip on watching the gauge to drop back when pugging. I didn't know this and used it today when I pugged. Unlike you, I only have one Peter pugger-the smaller SS model. It was a MUST when I set up my studio 10 years ago. And yes it was expensive but an essential piece of equipment even though I am not a large production potter. I started my clay journey at a much later age. So, I'd much rather focus all my energy to creating rather than wedging & reclaiming! PS...love your book

Hi Mary. This video is special. Last week I went to the Henry Moore Foundation in Hertfordshire, England. His work is so inspiring and your sculpture has the same look. Thanks for sharing your processes. Very helpful. ❤

What a wonderful compliment ❤️ I remember when I first discovered Henry Moore’s work, I was a teenager that had just discovered clay and his work blew me away. I often think of him when I’m sculpting and creating those wonderful curvy lines. If I had another life time I would love to do bronzes.❤️

So enjoyable, great bedtime watching!. The way you pinch your edges is pretty - and then you wipe over them. But do you find the edges then are more liable to chip? I often wonder if chips are because I haven't compressed the rims enough. Thanks!
@maryfoxpottery10 ай бұрын
If the edge is super thin it will chip and/or not take the glaze well. It’s best to try to keep it to a reasonable thickness while still retaining the torn look. Glad you’re enjoying the videos 😁🦊

I love your heart bowls. Thank you so much for showing us how to do them, although it might be more difficult when trying myself ... It looks so easy with your hands, but in fact you are a wonderful expert! Would you like to share which weight you are using for throwing? Is it 1 lb or less / more? Thank you so much for sharing!
@maryfoxpottery11 ай бұрын
Hi Andrea, glad you are enjoying the videos 😊 I don’t weigh the clay for the heart bowls as I like having them in different sizes, I’m guessing these are around 1 lb of clay. Happy heart making ❤️👍

I loved watching you make your beautiful teapot. The commentary was pleasant and easy to follow. I bought myself your book this Christmas. I learned to throw pottery in high school in the early 70s and wasn’t able to get back to it until 2019. I care for my mom with Alzheimer’s full time and started a class at my local community college as a break and outlet. I’m loving it.

Miss Bobbypins my hedgehog. Unfortunately I got her when she was about 3 years old and pretty much unsocialized so generally I leave her in her condo but ever so often I bring her out to explore a bit. She’s okay with Amy 🐩 but gets very quilly around Sasha, my other dog that I’m sure has some terrier in her 🤣

What's up with Laguna that they mix their clay so hard? It's so unpleasant to use right out of the bag. Fortunately, adding slip makes it throw better anyway.
@maryfoxpottery Жыл бұрын
Part of the problem is how long clay can sit at a suppliers before it gets used. Try looking at the manufacturing date on the box and pick the newest 😊🦊

I pick up my clay as soon as she gets it in. She has one customer she special orders a softer mix for....I guess I'm going to have to do that, too. Thanks for taking the time to reply. BTW... I've been throwing for 50 years.
