We humans evolve to be able to smell off food so we can live. Yet, modern humans ignore the off smell at times to not waste food. Listen to your body

When I was in my teen till my twenties I use walkman headphones to earbuds to shut out the world around me. These days, now one year away from 60, I don't need any of these anymore. I've grown real in-head speakers.

The trauma surrounding my mother's Alzheimer's and death launched nonstop music in my right ear. It really sounded as if I was hearing an external sound - it was a choir humming songs in unison. (My mother was a classical singer and was in her church choir for close to 50 years). The first song was the famous sextet from the opera "Lucia di Lammermoor." After awhile there were more songs. I longed for silence but it never came. One thing that drove me nuts was that the choir _could not_ sing a half-step correctly. I had to teach them how to do it, using the song "Bali H'ai" from the musical _South Pacific_ (which is chock full of half-steps). This started in early 2008. Now my tinnitus is so bad that I don't always hear music, and when I do (some song or other always starts up when I get up in the morning), it's more in my head than in my ear. But it has never interfered with getting things done, unless I can't remember what the song IS! I finally identified a piano piece as a Chopin Prelude (Op. 28, No. 5, 'Raindrop') a couple of weeks ago, to my great relief.

That's an interesting point about vampires burning in sunlight. The unknown was often replaced with "supernatural" until science could explain it.
