I blame humans for this. The idiot who built the box. He/she should have known they have woodpeckers in their town. So simple fix is nailing a thin sheet of metal around the box so they can't pick it and get inside.

The photographer in the colored picture hung around and gave the woodpecker plenty of time to kill the baby doves. The hen dove was afraid to defend them. Talk about human greed?

There's no attack, but being under constant siege is pretty damn scary. Looks like the entrance has a metal trim to prevent these woodpeckers from invading these birds.
