I've been following this tutorial and it's been working awesome for fixing up my model, however I have a question about an issue I'm encountering. Once I have fixed my ambient occlusion map, I go back into material mode and the issues are still there because they are showing the ambient occlusion mesh map underneath, even though I turned replace on. Not sure If I worded that well but I can't find anything on why this is happening so some help would be appreciated!

Can u also tell how did you finalised the low poly model (how did you add the belt type of the thing around the handel)
@StuLloyd10 күн бұрын
I duplicated faces from the handle then extruded the faces to give them thickness, but you can also use the "sweep" function in Maya.
@Ariel-z3f14 күн бұрын
I find it interesting that you decided to first do the low poly in maya before processing it through zbrush, it's a good approach I've not seen adopted much. Personally I model everything in zbrush since you get more flexibility out of it and wont be so worried about drastic topology changes, though this results in a much more harder time doing the retopo once finished.
@StuLloyd14 күн бұрын
Yeah I find modelling in Maya easier, but it's just a use case thing. Anything organic I will always sculpt first, but for these more hard edged surfaces I find it easier to model a base first. Good thing about modelling in Zbrush first though is that you can have your low poly done at the same time, and also export displacement maps without having to project it all back.

Can't you just exploded the model before baking and set the AO bake to use mesh names?
@StuLloydАй бұрын
You can yeah, but baking issues can still exist on separate meshes. Vid is really just to show how to approach fixing these issues if they occur.

Now I have to go even further: If I didn't know any better, I would say that the BBC Symphony Orchestra was engaged live here. Even 15 - 20 years ago, nobody would have believed that this was done on a computer with so-called VSTs! ONE MOMENT...you didn't...? 🤔 Anna-Maria Helsing didn't tell me how much a studio session with the orchestra costs... Secondly, I've only now - after 4 days - had the pleasure of listening to your work. I just now fully activated the bell. What a bummer! BUT: I don't know if you know the German cake specialty “Frankfurter Kranz”? It tastes much better if you leave it to rest for two or three days. Thirdly: I don't need to say another word about the magnificent Amy, except...PHENOMENAL! 💜👍🏼🎹🎧🎶🧎🏼♂🤗✨👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼💪🏼💥💦💫

Hi, great video! I have a question and would really appreciate your response. I've been using Cinema 4D to create 3D models and have a solid grasp of modeling tools, maintaining proper topology, and edge flow. However, I’m looking to transition away from C4D and move to either Maya or Blender. While I have some experience with Blender, I’d prefer to learn Maya since it's the industry standard and is used at my company. The only issue is that due to my work schedule, I don't have much time to dedicate to learning Maya, although I can take a week off to focus on it. Given my strong modeling background, do you think Maya would be quicker and easier for me to pick up? How long do you think it would take to get comfortable with the UI and tools? My goal is to start creating game assets and low-poly characters for rigging and animation. Thanks
@StuLloyd3 ай бұрын
Hey! Thank you :) Seeing as you already know the important concepts of modeling, you would pick it up very fast, one week would be enough time for sure. Maya would be easier for you to transition because Blender's shortcuts 's are very far away from most 3d software. It does have a way to switch to industry standard mode, which behaves more like Maya, however it actually makes it harder to learn because most tutorials etc always teach the standard Blender shortcuts. Maya has some easy accessible modeling tools in the "modeling toolkit" menu, and a "shift + right click" menu. It also has one of my fave features, which is "D + Ctrl" to quickly align your pivot to any face or edge, really handy while modeling! It's UV'ing is also very nice. I come from a 3ds Max background and I wish it has a lot of Maya's functions. Maya doesn't really have a "modifier stack" though, it has more of a "history" workflow, which might take some getting used to.

A lot of steps to clean the AO map but it's exactly the video I was looking for 🤩 Thank you! I'll try your methods tonight and clean those ugly artefacts
@StuLloyd3 ай бұрын
No worries, yeah, it's a bit fiddly, but I guess it makes sense to not have these work like this by default, but it's a way to do it if you want to solely work in SP. I still export maps and just fix them in Photoshop a lot of the time
@shynnobi3 ай бұрын
@@StuLloyd Thanks for the feedback, I don’t have a lot of experience with SP and texturing so I was wondering why my baked normal maps had some artefacts (naively I thought baked maps would be more clean or I would be easier to clean them in directly in SP). I’ll try doing it on Photoshop as well 💪

I don't know why but my substance doesn't let me preview the baking process, I've been having to bake plenty of times to see which config applies the best
@StuLloyd3 ай бұрын
As far as I know you can't preview, you need to bake to see the results, then rebake if they're not to your liking, so sounds like you're doing it correct
@Sagegabs3 ай бұрын
@@StuLloyd Ok I missexpressed, what I really mean't is that when you adjust the cases to match as much as possile you can see the changes while adjusting. My substance doesn't do that, It wasn't as complicated since it's a relatively simple model but still... It's also my very first time using substance so that doesn't help either 😂. Also another issue I have is that when I blur my colour mask the line where the UVs join get's visible.
@StuLloyd3 ай бұрын
@@Sagegabs Hmm that's a strange one, you're definitely using 2 meshes yeah? Loading the low poly and projecting with the high? For the blur issue, you might need to manually paint your mask going a bit further past the UV seam so when it blurs it doesn't cross the seam
@Sagegabs3 ай бұрын
@@StuLloyd Yes, lol it's funny cuz I was able to just add one fire icon alpha in the blade. But yeah, I am doing the exact same steps.
@Sagegabs3 ай бұрын
@@StuLloyd The only thing I'm not liking this far is that your model looks way better, more natural. The way you sculpted the wood looks way better than mine but it's ok, I'll just practice much more my scultping 👍
