Awesome idea to extend the cages! Your garden is beautiful! I have about 50 of those 54 inch cages and do a ton of maters every summer. I extend the cages with bamboo and zip ties.

I'm so glad to see your video and your healthy cantaloupe plants, it gives me hope and determination to outsmart the critters. Last year the squirrels took a bite of each one as I planted them on the ground but this year I'm going to trellis them like yours. Thanks for posting your success and the tip about the dollar store too, much appreciated.

Very curious what those muscadine are growing in pvc? Also enlighten me on why everything is still in its pots but buried I’ve never seen it done like that before is anything cut off those planter bottoms etc? Curious if this has worked and your still doing it like that?
@Mr.Mike14 жыл бұрын
That's just 4" edging shaped into a circle. It collects and holds the water and allows it to soak into the soil instead of just running off when I water. ( the plants are on a slight hill) You don't have to use if your ground is flat or you have drip irrigation.
@tammydepew52364 жыл бұрын
Do you still use cattle panels for your melons? I just set one up tonight for this reason. How many do you plant per panel?
@Mr.Mike14 жыл бұрын
Two plants on both sides of the arch for a total of 4 per Cattle Panel. I trim all but the two best vines on each plant and train them up the Cattle Panel to the middle of the arch then cut off the tips of each vines. I leave 4 are so melons on each vine. This lessens the stress on the plant.
@aquamarine34244 жыл бұрын
Yukon are determinate potatoes which means that layering the dirt like that will not increase your yield. You should use an indeterminate potato like a Russet variety to actually increase your yield by layering the dirt. Also, wait to harvest until the plant dies back more. That will get you bigger potatoes. Happy Gardening!

You use a knee high stocking and tie it to the trellis 😉
@tammydepew52364 жыл бұрын
I keep hearing about that through the years but didn’t even know they still sold knee highs. Please tell how you do this technique.Do you actually put the melon in the stocking and tie it in somehow or do you create a sling with it somehow?

That’s one huge property you have there! I recently downsized from about a 1/4 acre, to a patio home. I miss having room for a veggie garden, but don’t miss mowing all that grass!
@Mr.Mike14 жыл бұрын
The mowing is no fun, but the String trimming is way worse. I had way too much to trim around. I took the raised Beds up this year, I'm working on a new design to keep the trimming to a minimum which is still more than I care to for. :-) Thanks for watching and commenting.

Did you build one with 70mm and rudder as you planned ? I'm building a 64mm now and plan a 70mm if this 64 goes well. I want a rudder on this 1st one. How did you design your rudder set up ?
@Mr.Mike14 жыл бұрын
My 70mm crashed on the maiden flight.:-( It was too tail heavy and it flew horrible. There is no rudder on my 64mm. It's not needed. It flys great with just elevator and ailerons you could add a rudder if you want. Thanks for commenting and good luck on your maiden.

@Saltyyy Queen420 I’m not exactly sure of your question. But I’ll just say this. Add 2 to 3 inches of soil to the bottom of your pot, then add your seed potatoes. Cover with about 1 inch of soil and water. Allow the seed potato to sprout and grow 4 inches. Then cover the spouted portion again with soil leaving the tops of the leaves exposed. Allow the plant to grow another 3 to 4 inches then cover again, leaving the tops of the leaves exposed. Repeat this until the container is full . Allow the plant to grow for the recommended time for your particular potatoes that you’re using. ( Day 1 is the day you planted the seed potatoes). Then harvest, I hope this helps and good luck.

Do cow panels rust? I'd like a rust free option.
@Mr.Mike15 жыл бұрын
They rust slowly about the same speed as a tomato cage I guess. It's in spots not over the entire panel at once. What would you be using it for, if you don't mind me asking?

Melons, cucumbers, etc. I don't want to eat rust particles (oxidized iron) so will stick to string and bamboo, I think. Thank you much!
