Wouldn't copyrighting your techniques give you 99 year IP protection instead of securing Patents. Also, why don't you keep your trade techniques a secret? After all, patents can be reversed engineered.

To be sure I was giving you a clear, comprehensive answer, I went to our patent firm and asked them to respond. Here is what they said: "Copyrights only protect against literal copying of source code that you have registered with the Copyright Office…good for things like Java headers and such but are irrelevant to what AtomBeam is doing and how its IP is protected. Patents cannot be reverse engineered without infringing. If you infringe, it doesn’t matter whether you came up with it independently or in a clean room-you still infringe. That’s why patents have only a 20-year lifespan." I should also add that we do in fact have a lot of trade secrets besides the patents - there is a lot of lessons learned and how-to in actually writing the code. We protect that information with NDAs and strong controls on access to the source code.

One question I have and maybe I missed something somewhere, nothing was said about ASIC chips. Has AtomBeam decided to move away from this (ASIC) in favor of SaaS method?

The chips are going to come much much later and only when there are vast amounts of capital. Charles on previous webinars said that the amount of capital necessary to make AtomBeam into a chip is very high and would require a team at AtomBeam only dedicated to it.

We get these questions a lot - this is a compilation of quick responses to the why and how of AtomBeam technology. AtomBeam is a fundamentally new approach to data reduction that has very broad implications for many areas, but its key value is the ability to reduce, usually by 60-80%, the size of machine generated data. Compression does not work for that data, and machine generated data is the future.

this is unreal. its amazing how much data humans produce. makes sense to have this type of technology to reduce the footprint. very cool
