I know it's really late to say it but many people don't get the twist. There are many reasons why Okabe would forget it. 1. It happened when D-mail wasn't even a thing. 2. Saved Mayuri 1000 of times. 3. He had to hurt many of his dear friends. 4. Okabe has social awkwardness. And it shows that he thinks about his social life a lot even though most of it is a joke but to say it out loud, he thought about it. 5. He was trying to crack how time travelling work. He may or may not be smart but that shit is complicated. 6. From number 2 & 3 alone would be a great deal on someone's mental and Okabe's a strong one. (He tried to save Kurisu despite knowing how insane the time loop is.) Depression does lower your brain performance, extra. 7. Okabe is actually the only one that makes everything lively, this added to his responsibilities. (This can be seen from the movie.) Okabe forgetting is normal. Not forgetting it, would means he's nonchalant or mentally sick.

It's easy and true to tell the gambling addicts in Kaiji that they should stop gambling and work hard. However, in a sense, many of these characters feel that there is a limit to their ``decent lifestyle'' and have given up on their own abilities. When you take these into account, Sakazaki's line, ``That money is everything, that money is my future'' no longer looks like the nonsense of a gambling addict. I find this work interesting no matter how many times I watch it.

7:55 - this is something the otherwise fairly good sub glossed over for ease of comprehension. What the subs translate _very_ dryly as "boarded" is originally "nagurikomi ni itteiru", of which the important part is "nagurikomi", 殴り込み. It broadly means something like a "penetration assault/battle" but is literally "punching (one's way) through". So Genos is making a dry pun of sorts here, given how Saitama fights, and it got translated as dry understatement instead (probably to fit the meter, though it's accurate to Genos' character). (For anyone a couple of years into studying Japanese, this isn't 殴り込んでる here even though it seems like it ought to, being a verb and all; Genos actually says "he's gone to punch his way through" rather than "he's punching his way in".)
