this one always wondered about this show. It remembers seeing only a couple episodes and never being able to find it, so it probbaly saw it on fox kids. Probably didn't even have Fox/ABC Family while DKC was running. Might sit down and marathon the show next time we have our girlfriend over

It's so wild to see and hear of a show that was never really on my radar here in the UK (Channel 4 wasn't on much growing up), and then to learn casually that British comedy legends Harry Enfield and Andy Hamilton were involved. Enfield probably most famous for his own sketch comedy show and Hamilton probably most famous for creating part ad-libbed sitcom Outnumbered, but to me he's always the creator and lead of Old Harry's Game as the voice of Satan

Random British viewpoint, Yvon of the Yukon was like a big deal on CBBC back in the day. I remember it being one of the featured shows on an animated block, or as part of a Saturday morning kids show as a break cartoon

I used to watch this most nights, but I always found it disappointing tbh. The only time I thought it ever lived up to its name (and consequently the only story I remember) was the cockroaches in the motel mattress. 😱 My mom also didn't like Maurice. and yes Weirdos crosses my mind every few years but this was the first time I've thought about Birdz in decades.

This video deserves a massive update now that we know that 4Kids' actors had a contract clause. You should definitely try and contact Norman J Grossfeld. He recently confirmed this on the 4Kids Flashback podcast.

I did mention contracts, but yeah, there's more to the story than what I had at the time. Grossfeld isn't someone anybody can just reach out too, though. No online presence from what I've seen.

I grew up on Teletoon through the late 2000's early 2010's and it was a mixed bag, and got worse as I kept watching due to all the shows being added that were only made to fill a quota. I liked early teletoon retro with Transformers and looney toons and later Teletoon at night with futurama, undergrads and fearless fred. Adult swim Canada seems to follow the same trend as teletoon with old Canadian shows and quota fillers among a sea of family guy, american dad and king of the hill, with it only really getting good after midnight.

Thank you so much for this. I fondly remember all of these, except for Delta State which I guess I didn't give a fair chance! I might do that. Those Night Planet bumpers just unlocked a core memory in me that I completely forgot. I used to see bits and pieces of them whenever I either snuck out to play N64 or got up too early for school and they always scared the hell out of me.

Okay, hear me out. Head canon theory. Donkey Kong Jungle Beat does not have any of the typical iconography from the Country series because this is actually a story of Donkey Kong senior and *not* the Donkey Kong we know in the modern sense. It details the story of how "Cranky" Kong is actually becoming king of the jungle to establish Kong island as his land. Note that this version of Donkey Kong is more brutal. I think that can be explained by Cranky belittling or being aggressive towards "modern" DK. Anyway, thanks for coming to my TEDx talk.

As a fellow Canadian who would sneak downstairs at night at a young age and would discover "The Detour", it definitely changed me big time haha. I had to have been around 7 or 8 and I originally thought because all the shows were cartoons that it was aimed for kids (boy was I wrong lol). It's how I discovered shows like Aqua Teen, Home Movies, Clone High, Undergrads, Family Guy and even the Wrong Coast! Great job on this video my friend, you've done your country proud!

Do you agree that neither Undergrads, Mission Hill, nor The Oblongs deserved to be rated 18+ AT ALL and they only deserved the 14+ rating? Lmao they were all rightfully rated TV-14 over here in America. And age ratings in America are almost always stricter than Canada, not vice versa. It’s just so awkward to me lol.
@TheCartoonGamer8000
@TheCartoonGamer8000 8 күн бұрын
@@Thataaronmurphydude27 Undergrads had a few episodes/moments that I didn’t think felt right for a 14+ show - again, not all those shows are equal, so even if some fit the bill more than others, it covered their bases. But yeah, Oblongs is definitely not 18+.

While I am Canadian and remember the block very fondly, there was something similar to The Detour/Teletoon Unleashed, but it was its own channel. It was called Locomotion and it aired animation for young adults, as well as anime. It was partially owned by Corus Entertainment from 2001 to 2005. It aired in Latin America, although there was also a version in Spain and Portugal. There doesn't seem to be a lot of English language retrospectives on this channel, if at all. Another thing I would like to mention is that Teletoon Canada tried to launch a few channels in Canada, like Teletoon Adult, Teletoon Multi, and Teletoon Pop. The only channel that ever got launched was Teletoon Retro in 2007.

How do dubbing studios back then get the film and audio when they Agreed licensing with a cartoon from a company? Does the company sent the audio and film overseas or something? 🤷‍♂️ (I had this in my mind for ages! 👴)
