Good instruction video very clear and easy to follow. Just a point on battery location. The setec manual specifies that the battery should not be mounted in the same location (enclosure) as the setec unit. The setec needs cooling space and the setec 35 has an integrated cooling fan. My Jayco came standard with battery under the bed enclosure (front) and the setec is in seat enclosure (rear). I am assuming that if someone tried to fit a battery that is a venting type close to the setec you may have potential of explosion/fire. You have a very interesting channel full of useful content.

Hi i have a 120ah battery that has been wired to 2 anderson plugs on the battery box. 1 anderson plug connects to the kings fridge and the other connects to the solar panal. My question is can i install the battery in my 2005 jayco eagle connecting it to the st20 it think it is and then plug my solar panel to the anderson plug connected yo the box to charge the battery? Also will i need to install a battery isolation switch as well? It will just be running the led lights and possibly some appliances.

No it's not. It's like a rubber compound. If you have a vinyl front consider using vinyl dye paint from super cheap. I haven't done it myself but have seen some good results on the forums.

G'day. The yellow cable I think your talking about in the AUX + in cable on the bottom right of the terminal strip. On this van that was wired through the van directly to the 12 pin plug for charging from the tow vehicle whilst travelling.

@caravanmodscom

You could. I wouldn't recommend it with this table as the mounting area around the edges of the table are quite small so you wouldn't get much surface area for bonding. Not saying it's not possible with a different type of table.

Did this install actually work? It looks as though you actually reversed the wires. Pin 4 appears to be on the far right of both the 7 pin and 12 pin sockets. But in the video you moved it from the far right of the 7pin to the far left of the 12 pin (reversed)??????. Looks like you corrected this in the video (1:52 compared to 2:09)

Hi Richard. Yes you can, as long as you run it through the correct regulator. Also you may want to think about a full battery management solution so the unit will automatically balance solar loads and 240v and 12v charging.

1 100 amp/hr AGM battery isn't big enough due the fact that you can only use 50 % of the 100 amp/hr which means that you have a usable 50 amps. It will run led lights, a fan or two and a tv for a couple of days, but that's it. Also, add in a 12v car fridge and the battery will be flat in a day. I know this from personal experience.
@caravanmodscom
@caravanmodscom 2 жыл бұрын
Yes correct. But it all come down to what your desired usage is. In this van the only thing running off the battery were the 12V LED lights and a few USB chargers. Combine that with the solar panel and it was all that Adrian needed.

Hi, what did you achieve by installing a battery direct to the 240 mains power.
@caravanmodscom
@caravanmodscom 2 жыл бұрын
The 240v connection was only to supply 12V DC to charge the battery via the Jayco controller. The Battery then supply's 12V back to the Jayco control box when the Van is not connected to mains to power the LED lighting.

I am just learning about this stuff. Do you not need an inverter? Is that because the lights run from 12v. ?
@caravanmodscom
@caravanmodscom 2 жыл бұрын
Brett. You only need an inverter if you want to make 12V DC into 240V AC. A setup like this wouldn't really be suited to an inverter. You would need more battery capacity and solar input also.

I need to wire up three anderson plugs in prep for towing a caravan. Two grey (battery charging and fridge) and one red for the ESC. Should I do one wire from the battery and then split it into the three ando plugs or do three separate wire runs? What fuses should I be using? This was a great video by the way. Keep them coming.
@SalvoDan
@SalvoDan 2 жыл бұрын
Check the rating on your ESC system, battery charger and fridge. If the total is higher than 50A, this is a terrible idea. If you only have one cable and split it, make sure it is rated for the maximum possible current draw of all three devices at the same time. You will also need to fuse a each cable as they split off. For this reason, you would be much better off running 3 separate cables. The extra labour required to run three cables instead of one big one is negligible, especially on a longer vehicle. A 150A rated Anderson plug and cable is going to cost much more than three 50A Anderson Plugs and cables.

Most 12 pin plug’s melt running the fridge on a long trip you’re better off sticking with a 7and having an Anderson plug for your fridge Last year in the Northern Territory lots of people were changing over after driving up and melting the 12 pin plug
@SalvoDan
@SalvoDan 2 жыл бұрын
Depending on your trailer manufacturer, the extra 5 pins may be for ESC, breakaway towing warning or some other proprietary connection. While running a fridge or battery charger through a 12-pin is ridiculously stupid, those other 3-4 pins are perfectly adequate for some non-standard connections. Having a breakaway or hydraulic brake pump running though one of the extra 4-pins (and earthing through the 5th) makes much more sense than through an Anderson plug or in Lieu of a Reverse light on a 7-pin. Anyone who even suggests wiring anything other than a Reverse light through Pin 2 needs to be euthanised for stupidity.
@jbzero85
@jbzero85 Жыл бұрын
@@SalvoDan most caravans don't have reverse lights, not required by law I've been told - beggers belief, but I guess that is why Jayco use pin 2 for the ESC system normally

Being that if you use tape or some rubber for seams on a roof of a camper I wonder how well plastic dip wood work using it and removing once a year. As it can be removed quite easily and is supposed to last 3 years now with UV protectant. If you can use on a car? Only reason I could think of it would not work is if seems stretched a bit even then this material should stretch pretty well.
