Thanks, mine's still going strong (bay trail Atom) as a daily web browser. It came with Win 8 core, although its very hard to try and keep free diskspace with every Win 10 (x86) update cycle. You upgrade the BIOS by downloading the BIOS update file from Intel, and putting it in the root of the micro SD card, then F7 at boot time of upgrade. I think it would run Win 7 well, but I've never had any success in getting the install to fully complete without hanging in the final boot phases (even with bay trail Win 7 drivers installed).

13:15 this looks EXTREMELY promising for being on such terrible hardware, personally id bet its probably possible between jvm args (mostly for garbage collection) and mods (or maybe just lower render range a bit) you could get 30fps stable (oh, vsync may also help...) ... 45 and 60, *maybe*, but i wouldnt hold my breath granted i also know alot more about minecraft and java than i reasonably should

reminds me of my OS on a stick (Never windows or macOS, due to install limits. usually ubuntu, and now also cachyOS) glanced at comments, something something very hot. yeahhhh can confirm. OS on a stick is equally hot... usb 3 is worse do to faster speeds due to more electricity in less time

This exact model runs homeassistant for the last 3 years without any glitch and still decent speeds! So in 2025 still in full operation!

half lifes min specs are for windows 95/98, where the max ram allowed and manageable by the OS is 512mb and a Pentium 4, you don't need to worry about that one

I bought one about 10 years ago, and after less than a month of light usage (watching KZbin videos, basically), it died. I also tried another similar device that ran Android...and that one, too, died after about a month of basically watching KZbin videos. I stopped buying them after they both died. I'm not rich enough to keep buying these things.

The one and only time I used Compute Sticks was in a previous workplace where they had two TVs they wanted as callboard displays. They had them struggling with the stock Windows 10 and would take literal years to boot up. I wiped them and installed plain old Debian on them. Had it auto-log in, start an X server with Chromium in kiosk mode straight to the callboard webpage. And it struggled doing that, too. But it would at least manage it within like two minutes instead of two decades.

I would like to have a Mac like that, but that Atom processor speed seems ridiculously slow in comparison to an iPhone or a Mac mini M4 (less than 5% of the speed). Does at least it have Bluetooth?

thanks to the advancement of technology they can try again make a compute stick as the motherboard of a steamdeck is near that things size
