The outfit and accessories are cute. But I'm creeped out by a girlish fashion style named after a novel about an abused girl. What gives?😟
@HerRoliness3 күн бұрын
Thanks! To copy from the wiki article about lolita fashion (which is Japanese in origin) in regards to the name "within Japanese culture the name [lolita] refers to cuteness and elegance". CNN Style has a great article about this as well. Basically, whilst the origin of the name does stem with the novel, the meaning and context is different, so I hope you can simply enjoy the fashion as it is - name and all.
Thank you! I hope your cosplay upgrades turn out great :)

THIS IS AWESOME, I love the total look, the armour under the surcoat and the runes on the sword. You did such a great job with adding in detail and the total look at 19:55 is great, like it could be the book cover. Also finding the bells, I have to mention them, I could never quite visualise how they sat as a bandola and you made it so well.

Working on my 2nd cosplay ever! I’m doing a take on Eurydice from Hadestown. I’m planning to assemble it, here’s what I’m thinking. Hat-I already have a hat like hers. I absolutely love it, all good there Hair-I have long blonde curly hair, she has short black/brown hair. I could get a wig. This is an interpretation, so I could leave my hair as is. I also might cut my hair short anyway, so that could work. Shirt-I have a white tee that could work. I’d love something more distressed with a linen like fabric. That made be hard to find because I’m petite-plus and I’d probably need to thrift it Overalls-I still need this. Hoping for black ones with cargo details. I have a 25 inch inseam, so I need to be really careful that they aren’t too long Shoes-I have the perfect shoes. The only issue is, I took the insoles out to fit my orthodic inserts. I can’t wear those for long, it hurts my feet. I need to get a new insole for those shows or get new shoes if I get an event opportunity. New shoes might be hard. I need distressed black ankle boots. I am a kids size three, or a woman’s size five. I can never find shoes like that in my size. I got so lucky with those. Jacket-I’d love a deep red ripped denim jacket, or something very similar. That’s very specific. I might have to get one that isn’t ripped and rip it myself Props-I want a red flower like the one on the playbill. I can probably find one at a crafts store. Can’t wait to make this cosplay! Any tips as a fellow non-skinny girl or as someone with more cosplay experience than me?

Sounds like you have a really solid handle on what you need for this cosplay, good on you! I'm not familiar with the character or Hadestown, but I think you're on the right track with thrifting/modifying items. Overalls you should be able to hem up if they're too long, and perhaps for the jacket you could try dying a regular pale denim jacket? Not that I've ever dyed anything myself... The red flower also sounds like a great prop/

I love the simple high impact pieces in your coords! I also don’t think there is anything wrong with wearing your clothes and having fun. I think you can invest as much as you’d like into the style which means you can amp it up as high as you like, or as long as you like what you’re wearing. At the end of the day lolita fashion is a hobby, so engaging with it in a way you enjoy is important!

@CupcakeKamisama5 ай бұрын
Your self-awareness levels about your style are pretty bang on, I also would’ve said simplicity, comfort, and multiple bow or flower hair clips. And you’re totally right in that what makes it work is the fact that you have all of this knowledge and experience TO make it work, it’s not just throwing random pieces together. I feel like I could probably have a stab at creating an Inspired by Roli coord, but only the people who know you would recognise it as such because it isn’t a very loud and in-your-face version of lolita fashion. All of that being said, I also think of you as one of the champions for bittersweet - you wear it very well and are making it work in a way that doesn’t feel so hell bent on proving a point.
@HerRoliness5 ай бұрын
Thank you, glad to hear it rings true ^__^ Haha also spot on about the bittersweet...all my black things have been in storage for over a year but I will admit I've been eyeing off some black/pink items lately that i know I really should get...but want to!

For the longest time I wanted my first cosplay to be Princess Hilda from The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds, but some parts of her outfit made me decide that I want my first cosplay to be a different character. I immediately knew I wanted to do a Junko Enoshima cosplay (based on her appearance in Danganronpa 3: Despair Arc)! I have been looking at her main outfit in detail, even looking carefully at pictures of her to find out how long (or tall? idk) her heels are (they seem to be about 7 cm)! I also noticed a few differences between how she looks in the games vs how she looks in the anime (like her skirt being just red and the lack of her former high school's symbol on her sleeves)! I also rolled up my skirt to be about the same length as hers to see how comfortable I am in it (let's just say I love wearing it like that, but outside if I felt uncomfortable or unsafe I definitely would need to be able to unroll it, so my skirt for that cosplay will have to be about the same length as the skirt I am wearing right now, which goes down to a little above my knees)! I also found out that the red things on her bra are little roses! It will require a lot of knowledge and skill to make it look as good as I want it to be, but I have the time to learn those because I am planning to start HRT hopefully this year or the next year, and I don't want to make a cosplay like hers in case my body changes enough for the cosplay to be too small or too big because oh my god it's gonna be a lot of work (I will even be modifying a bra a little for it)! I also know now for sure what shirt she is wearing under the cardigan (? (that's what the fan wiki called it)), so now I know that it I feel uncomfortable in public while wearing that cosplay (which would make sense because her chest shows a bit. Junko said in her artbook: "it's less "you can see" and more "I'm showing you".", so that's probably enough info to know just how much is shown there (if me mentioning how the bra looks isn't enough lol), so now I know I would be able to just button that shirt up if I felt uncomfortable! Also, my plans would be to wear it to an event, but mostly just to wear it just because I feel like it, but inside the house and outside even when doing something like just groceries! lol That's all I really have to say about that! I'm really excided and I really wanna start learning to sew at some point, and maybe if I am really lucky with HRT (which with a lot of stuff I have been lucky) then maybe I will be shorter and around Junko's height (my height right now is something I really don't like and I heard some people got 1-3 inches shorter after starting HRT, but it seems to be rare, so I don't know lol)! Anyway, this is probably a really long comment already so I will stop now! Also, please let me know if I should edit my comment to remove or change anything (like mentions of her chest or bra for example, because I can see how that might be too much info)!
@Melody_Candiez6 ай бұрын
I guess I will also add here another difference! I will just copy my notes about the boots here! "Mid-sized black boots with platform heels and red laces. The heels seem like they are about 7 cm. According to my older sibling they don't seem difficult to walk in when looking at the picture of DR3 Junko, but when looking at the DR1 pictures of her my older sibling says they look difficult to walk in (or as Mukuro said "An accident waiting to happen")."

Uff, 6 months without your wardrobe😳 I find it hard already to pack for a short holiday, but 6 months...! But I love how positive you see it, and the way you treat it like a challenge with many opportunities. Lolita fashion often is so centered around buying new clothes (and I love it🙈), and I think that taking that element away will lead to a completely new way of connecting to the hobby/fashion/lifestyle. I think it will really help you to grow as a Lolita. A Lolita thrift flip sounds awesome! Maybe it's not too unlikely? In the spirit of oldschool Lolita you could find something to work with😍 But still...6 months😳

I know its the point of these videos, but I really felt the functionality and distinctive style of this one! (I also feel like this was the style that so many of the new lolitas were trying to achieve at the time, so I rarely saw it this well executed due to their limited wardrobes)
