Hi, with the comeback of analog synths the sounds of this Synth are right on! I am a drummer and not a synth player but as a band owner I remember buying a Roland Juno 106 back in the 80's when it came out. Regret selling it ever since and learned my lesson NOT TO SELL any Roland synths ever again. They sound majestic and in a way always steps ahead of the rest! Great video👍🏻👍🏻

in 1 I put the Jupiter, in 2 the JP-800 which have more brilliance/dynamics and after the PC emulation the quality of the components and the place of manufacture In some sounds we don't hear this difference on an oscilloscope compare the curves

I had the bigger bro: JP-8080 several years ago. I sold it to buy a guitar. If I was a rich man, I would not have bothered to sell it (the guitar is a higher priority). The slight regret is due to the fact that it has a certain flavor that is difficult to capture with my existing software (although I miss it less and less the better patches I make). It basically boils down to what pallet of colors you like to paint your sound with. Still, I do miss a tactile synth. I generally prefer oldschool electronica all the way to the early-to-mid 90s Video-game soundtracks sort of sounds in my music (prog rock is fun too). I did plenty EDM back in the day, and only like the sounds, but always wish that EDM music was more complex (great sounds, but missed opportunities, if you ask me). I can get lost these days in "Dad-electronica" _Greek or citrus_ flavored sounds (and I'm not even middle aged). The Roland JP series can fit very well in those asks, but if I had a blank check, I'd probably probably go for something more vintage or nostalgic, like the Roland Jupiter 6/8 (that's a BIG ask $$). Software can get you a long way, but I do miss the touchy-feely knobs and sliders, and that last 5% of the authenticity. There is something about the filters on these VA Rolands. Sure, it's a computer inside, but I have yet to find a plug-in that fully encapsulates that rubbery, and slightly cold or thin resonance. In spite of the fact that it might be "thin" compared to a slightly older synth, it sits in the mix well. I'm of the opinion that you should be able to make great music with whatever tools you've been blessed with, but if you DO own a 90s Roland, I'd suggest keeping it. Even if you do find a VST that is a picture perfect plastic-y filter, that's one less resource hog for a taxed CPU. I for one think that filter is a great ingredient to add to your sonic-spice rack. Thank you for this trip down memory lane. Fun vid!

I totally agree with you 😃😃 I also had the 8080… but sold it because I needed more Keys (or not🤣) I still miss the 8080 although the 8000 is so nice to still have 😃😃😃

Did you uninstall it on other synths you might have installed it? It will only work on one synth at the time… if that’s not the issue, then you must contact the Roland “backstage” and ask them 😃😃

hey, I don't know what am I doing wrong: my arp part edit it just not working. I have one switch on and the part is not doing the arpeggio. only when I am turning on all 4 parts the switch to on, the arp is working. but that means all the parts are playing the arp and I only want one part. maybe you can help ?

Glenn, any advice on what synth I’d need to add to my current portfolio of Juno-X and Juno DS88? When I asked the salesguy at Guitar Center about the Fantom-07, he said the Juno-X does the same except Fantom is a workstation. What say you?

Hey a 2 year belated nice studio! I bought my JD-800 new in the early 90’s to replace my Jupiter 8, the JD-800 had a realistic piano sound which meant I didn’t need the CP-70 anymore, the Crystal Rhodes meant I didn’t need my DX7 or DynoMy Fender Rhodes anymore, and the strings were real samples unlike my Jupiter 8, it was a logical upgrade to my Jupiter 8 though I’m sure young guys today would probably laugh seeming the Jupiter’s now sell for 20k used (I laugh at this one since it took me a month to finally find a buyer for mine at US $450.00 in 1990 .. seriously! I still have my JD-800 and it’s still in mint condition like it was new, I also have the cloud version, the cloud version definitely reminds me of the real thing, but my real JD-800 definitely sounds different in its tonal quality, it’s those clean icy converters Roland was using in its JV/JD series back then .. you can’t replicate that with any in the box synth these days apart from taking a direct sample of it into Kontakt .. then you can side by side compare and not hear the difference .. at least that’s been my experience. But I admit of the 20 or so hardware synths I still have strewn around my house including the JD-800 .. I have not even turned them on in years now, there is no need too, there are so many wonderful sounds I can get in the box these days that we could only dream of in the 80/90’s, I’m like a boomer age kid in a candy store. I don’t make my living as a keyboard player like I did up to the late 90’s, but man live players sure got it made these days, if I were playing live these days it’d be 2 Korg Microkey Air 61 keyboard controllers and a laptop .. that’s it .. no visits to the chiropractor from moving big keyboards around 😬 Enjoy that beautiful gear 👍

Picked up an Alesis Vortex2 last year (never played before) just to add a bit of keys to my band's sound (cover Separate Ways and walk of life so far - adding Jump soon). Great instrument but a fairly step learning curve if you haven't played with midi synths before. Have purchased a few of the cherry audio synth emulators - having fun with these and you can often get them cheaper via humble bundle (I'm not affiliated in any way). Thanks for the quick reviews - the Roland looks awesome but was a bit pricey for me as a first foray into the world of Keytars.
@GlennMainMusic
@GlennMainMusic 5 күн бұрын
The Alesis is a great Keytar too. I had the pleasure of using one on a gig I had in UK last year And I loved it ;) It was a bit different than the Roland, but I got used to ut very quickly. The Roland is more pricey due then onboard sound mashie I guess 😃😃

Nice video. Thanks for the comparison. :) I never had the original JD-800, but a few years back did pick up the JD-08 and K25m. Got a Jupiter Xm yesterday, so I'll get the model and move the JD-08 along, algthough it's nice having the hands on control on the JD-08 more like a mini JD-800. Love some of the JD pads and they can work really well with a layer with something else.
