Thank you so much for making this video! I’m not trying to make a marionette but I am trying to draw a puppet character and this has been really helpful to figure out how the hip joints work! I was starting to despair at ever drawing accurate joints!

Hello, I am looking into making a rod marionette of my arm and was wondering when it comes to drilling a hole through the head for the rod how does one go about drilling the hole so that airlines with the neck I’m very curious about this. Please let me know
@TonySinnettMarionettes
@TonySinnettMarionettes 13 күн бұрын
Well i guess the ideal way would be to put the hole in the head before carving or sculpting, otherwise just measure up using calipers and your eye.

Is it possible to transfer this type of method to a metal rod to a toy that basically made from stuffing and also fabric
@TonySinnettMarionettes
@TonySinnettMarionettes 6 ай бұрын
I guess you would have to insert something into the fabric such as a block so you have something structurally strong.

Did you "cross-connect" the legs to the leg bar? i.e. is the hind right leg attached with the front left string, somehow? such that those two move together, (whilst the front right and hind left do. as well?)
@deleted_why
@deleted_why 10 ай бұрын
So, i am planning a shirt fable/parable where a donkey must fall down a well... it is the HIND leg that is most intriguing... the "knee" is backwards! i noticed that this beastie's knee does not flex at all...🤔 I will need to "sit" at the bottom of the well, so i rather think i'll need to have a bit more movement in the hind quarters.

Yes you would want to create a knee joint in the rear leg if you want it to sit down better. Use the same as front but in reverse so foot comes forward on bending.

I'm just getting into puppet making now, and your work is amazing! Do you have any advice on avoiding paint chipping I'm the joints? I'm worried it will rub off if I'm not careful. And particular paints you use?

What type of glue do you use Tony?
@TonySinnettMarionettes
@TonySinnettMarionettes Жыл бұрын
For this i used cyanoacrylate adhesive, otherwise known as Mitre Glue which you can get from most DIY stores. Its like superglue but in a bigger tube and with an activator.

Thank you for showing the floating plate! I've been trying to figure out how to support my puppet's weight AND have a rocker control that only manipulates the hips. I'm sure that's terribly unclear...but I think your construction here gives me an idea of what to try. As always, your work is fascinating and inspiring.
