Probably two world wars stopped development at the iron and tinplate works. contrary to the popular myth wars always stop progress and they do this by hurting people killing talent and stopping communication.

I went there in 1974 approximately it had closed downi dont know when . the main gates were locked but we snuck in and we went into a smallish power plant run by a horizontal slide valve steam engine. I remember boxes and boxes of old style edison type light bulbs, it was a complete time warp then. People forget that there was a time when technology sometimes did not change labour was cheap and tradition ruled.

Luckily it was not sold for scrap. -- surprising as steel works were local further down the coast. Was it a private works?

At Least Greenfield still very active indeed. Llanelli is a very different place and sadly community generally and socially wise to when these were built and also when jobs were in Llanelli.. Poorer in quite a few ways. Less Chapels and actually incidentally less pubs as well. Some empty chapels still there how Tabernacle survives is a real mystery to me. Christainity and Llanelli needs a revival.

What a fantastic idea,i have been doing sort of similar for the past 10 years & find it very rewarding,i am now in the process of recording & filming the many pipe organs in these buildings, many of which have long gone,we must preserve what we got now, once its gone, its gone for ever !
