So the Bridgeview was worth it? I see that place advertised in the NorthEast RR magazine all the time....

Great job--thanks for posting this. Does the local have a 'regularish' time it comes through California Ave? I assume it crosses Route 9 as well in Framingham..
@tjstrainsakatonyjordan86116 күн бұрын
Thanks! That idea had been on my list for quite a while but it took a long time for it to happen. I believe that L004's crew goes on duty at 1130 in North Yard. I believe they set off circa 1-1.5 hours later, putting them at California Ave. around 1245-1330. But like all things related to freight trains, YMMV.

that is not the l005 that is not the l002 it is most likely a yard job extra from the first shift switcher or the third shift the l005 runs pretty much strictly to attleboro then back to framingham but it will sometimes head to worcester with standard cab units the l002 runs from 8:00 at night to 8:00 in the morning from framingham to worcester the l005 runs from 9:30 pm to 9:30 am l002 outlaws almost every day
@tjstrainsakatonyjordan8611Ай бұрын
Thanks. I kind of figured that if L005 continued to WOR, it would do so with standard cabs. But I thought I had heard of it occasionally using L002's power on that westward run. Also, someone on one of the FB groups has repeatedly referred to a morning train as L002 (e.g. 10/2/24 "L002 Grafton west @8:49am. C&O heritage unit third out."); so based on that, I figured he knew what he was talking about. The morning of my video, I heard a crew on the scanner call themselves L005 and say they were waiting for L002 to double their train in Nevins. So I guessed that the train I saw was one of those. But what do I know? I'll update the video as best as I can.

Interesting. I can't remember how we came to believe it was I010. I think I heard it on my scanner. But my son also had a friend over in Amsterdam, telling us what was headed our way, including train ID's, so we may have gotten it from him. But if you think it's unlikely to have been I010, I can't argue with you since I'm a Massachusetts guy. :-) That's only my third time railfanning in the Albany area. Always an enjoyable time though!

That diamond in Walpole can be a wonderful place to be around that time on weekdays. I try to use that as one of my stops between destinations. The next time you're there let me know maybe we can get somebody up on the bridges of Main Street & Elm Street to catch footage from both sides of the bridge of the train traffic. If this month gives me the time on a Tuesday, I was looking to film the MBTA'S yard in Readville/Milton or the Walpole diamond as you did here.
@tjstrainsakatonyjordan86114 ай бұрын
Thanks for the reply! I've caught L010 and L011 there individually, but I hadn't caught them on the same day like that. So it was cool how it all came together. And then it was fun to go to Readville as I hadn't been there in 2-3 years and hadn't caught a loaded L010 there before.

@tjstrainsakatonyjordan86117 ай бұрын
hi Stephen. You're quite welcome. I'm glad you enjoyed it. That is actually the second biggest consist I've ever seen for that train (33 being the longest). It goes up to Leominster on I believe Mon, Wed and Fri and only goes to I believe Clinton on Tue and Thu. The trains are longer on the Leominster days as they have two or maybe three customers up that way.

From my observations, the CSX westbound job tends to start building its train at Nevins Yard after L010 departs back to Readville. Depending on the length of the job it takes a while to build its train at Nevins - your best bet is to just camp out at Framingham - either at the station (when a bunch of GE widecabs show up) or at Nevins (when it's building its train).
@tjstrainsakatonyjordan8611 Жыл бұрын

I believe because there was no room in the yard for them. A westbound train (M439?) was working in the yard (which isn't very large) so I suspect this train had to wait for that other one to head west before entering the yard.
