Fresh, authentic, genuine, and, above all else, lyrical. The world needs Shona Donaldson much as a suffocating man needs oxygen. Her gift is from on high.

I was told my Grandfather played the fiddle. He was born in Scotland in 1853 and came to the United States in 1883. It appears he was also a singer, dancer, fiddle player, boilermaker, etc. Are you able to tell me what songs he may have played on his fiddle between the above mentioned years using his personal info I just wrote about? Any suggestions would be appreciated by all of my family members...Thank you in advance.

I like to just go at it all fast and try to pretend I know a bunch of position combinations.. like they way they learned trad tunes in the old days.

Quite obviously a most beautiful piece but why on earth would the Scotts dedicate anything beautiful to the King and Emperor of the realm that visited such cruelty and hardship on their ancestors. Does Scotland not have and national pride in itself or will it be forever a slave to the British Empire

I'm really struggling to find this man's sublime singing on youtube. Every snippet welcome, but anyone who can, PLEASE post. I heard him for the first time tonight (Hogmanay2018)on Alba, which I just discovered I could watch live on BBC i-player....joy for a homesick exile!

Love to hear the full song: just caught him on Alba's New Year Ceilidh and I could listen to him for hours. This short clip was 1st VOCAL performance of his I found, so I hope there is much more out there.

If you just take a step back and see and listen, Scottish is not that hard: A drover lad I cam fae Tarland Lang miles the Falkirk tryst tae see Up ower Culblean the beasts I’d driven Tae the bonnie banks o’Dee A song tae settle doon my cattle A song my hairt fae care tae free Kye bedded doon by Tullich toon Near by the bonnie banks o’Dee A lassie stopped near by tae listen A Tullich quine o’high degree An ither lass wid ner surpass Her beauty by the banks o’Dee. Come tae me my bonnie lassie Come sit ye doon upon my knee We’ll sing the auld rif sangs the gither By the bonnie banks o’Dee She sat by me, we sang the gither She spent the lea lang nicht wi me Her gowden hair like threads o’sunlicht Her een as blue’s the pools o’Dee Neist mornin’ as we lay the gither We swore tae meet and merry be I kissed her lips, I held her close Then pairted by the banks o’Dee Fan I returned wi gear and siller Tae Tullich toon tae bide a wee My lass she’d wed a wealthy fermer By the bonnie banks o’Dee Fan larks and linties fill the gloamin’ And air hums wi the honey bee My auld hairt drirls, I hear it still Her singing by the banks o’Dee Come tae me my bonnie lassie Come sit ye doon upon my knee We’ll sing the auld rif sangs the gither By the bonnie banks o’Dee Come tae me my bonnie lassie Come sit ye doon upon my knee We’ll sing the auld rif sangs the gither By the bonnie banks o’Dee It's about a shepard who bring his flock to the banks of the river Dee. He there meets a beautiful, blond haired, blue eyed girl and they fall in love. They spend some time together kissing and she sitting on his lap (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) and the he has to get his flock back to wherever he came from. The he finds out that she married a wealthy landlord and so he dwells on that. These song almost always end tragically...
