My third short journey in my Kayak on Saturday. Watersnake was working only on low. Half way down river, nothing. Watersnake is junk. It’s cheap for a reason. Spend a bit more and get something that won’t strand you miles down river.

Yes I still use it. I only take it when I am going longer distances. Otherwise I just peddle. I use a 28 or 50 ah battery depending on where I am going. That will get me around 1.5 hours or 3 hours of continuous use.

Glad I watched this before buying a Watersnake. That is a noisy motor!
@thekayaklaunch3 ай бұрын
I think that is mostly due to my setup. I am not able to get the motor as far down into the water as you might otherwise, so it makes a sloshing sound as it pulls in a little air. I think it would be much quieter if it was on a kayak with a little less free board.

For harbor fishing I would recommend NewPort harbor. It has the best fishing other than San Diego Bay in my opinion. For ocean fishing Dana Point is pretty good. Just use shrimp in the kelp around the red buoy

@thekayaklaunch4 ай бұрын
Drifting around the rocky areas and the kelp with live bait produced some bass and sculpin. You can get a scoop at the mouth of the harbor for $20. The last time I was there I caught a few bass and a sheephead using shrimp near the bottom while tied up to the kelp. Have fun and let me know how it goes!

Looks like a fun day fishing the kelp! Curious to know, did your fishing rod come with that padded handle or did you add it ? ....assuming it is for a better grip ? Thanks for sharing the video ;)
@thekayaklaunch5 ай бұрын
Hello, your probably referring to the black foam thingy on my pole just above my hand. That is just a float thing to keep the rod and reel from sinking if it goes overboard. Bought a pack of them off amazon. I use them on my smaller poles. I do everything I can to keep from loosing gear to the depths :)

What battery would you recomment to use with this? For reference, I fish a medium size lake and would only use the motor to cross the lake. My kayak has pedal propulsion and I would use that most of the time. Thank you!

Hi, I use an 18ah Lithium Ion battery. This will get you a little over an hour on high or 2.5 hrs on low. Sounds like that will work for what you want to do. 🙂

Can I get a list of all the items
@thekayaklaunch6 ай бұрын
Basically you need a Johnson 350-500gph bilge pump (or any mfr). A reverse flow valve from Home Depot (this helps keep the pump primed), the dog food container (or whatever you use to hold the water) and the various hoses and connectors to connect it all up. Some use an outboard gas tank prime bulb to suck in water and get the pump primed with water before you start the pump.
@MackinNC16 ай бұрын
Nice, what battery are you using? nevermind just saw battery at the end.
@freshsaltyfries50786 ай бұрын
Great build 😮 are you using a priming bulb ?
@thekayaklaunch6 ай бұрын
Thanks. I started out with one but I must have chosen a poor quality item as it fell apart on me. I removed the primer. Now I just just use a portable short hose inside the tank and give a quick 'suck', to get a little water started up the bilge. lol. After that I dont usually have to prime again.

Does it create more noise mounting it this way?
@thekayaklaunch6 ай бұрын
'more' noise is kind of vague :) More than what? If you mean being close beside me instead of up front or back on the stern, I would say yes. Its a bit noisie being right next to me especially as the shaft is not super long and does not allow the drive prop to be deep in the water. So you get a fair bit of prop noise. I just sing a little louder!

How can you tell the difference between a halibut & a flounder?
@thekayaklaunch11 ай бұрын
One way to tell the difference between a halibut and a flounder is by looking at their body shape and size. Halibut have an elongated, diamond-shaped body with pointed dorsal and anal fins, while flounder have a short and rounded body with flat or rounded tails. Halibut are also much larger than flounder generally speaking
