I sure hate that it missed making its way on to my radar earlier, but it does mean I get to enjoy the binge, lol! I'm into the 4th one now - should be done in time to hit the 7th on release day. I've had a lot of folks tell me the 6th book is their favorite of the series so far - what's your take on that?

@@TheNerdyNarrative I really liked the 6th, for spoiler-reasons I can't say why.. but also the few little things I didn't like as much about it sort of dungeon floor based as a whole. You'll see :)

"WARNING! The following comment is so wholesome that it's clearly a trap. You find it." Leslie, I can't tell you how well timed this upload is. I started DCC at the beginning of August, and like you, I've binged it. All six. Twice. I've laughed more in the last three weeks than I think I ever have to a book. Funnily, I'm NOT a gamer, never have been, but the gaming elements were still easily accessible to me. I'm sure I'm missing some obvious game in-jokes but it really doesn't matter. I've been doing the audible too and agree completely that Jeff Hayes is fantastic. To my everlasting frustration though, now I have to wait over a year for the next book. Dammit. The AI is my fave too. I will say that as I went into books four through six, the deeper story is getting SUPER intriguing and the writing has added some deeply emotional moments, along with the belly-laughs I've done some ugly crying too. Simply wonderful. "ACHIEVEMENT! You have joined a *bandwagon* of hype! You have allowed social pressure to determine a reading choice." "REWARD?! You just had an enjoyable reading experience that led to content that received comments that in turn engaged the algorithm. You're a book tuber. That's reward enough."

Derri, your comment absolutely WINS Comment of the Year. Love it!! I see exactly what you mean about depth - I'm already deep off into the 4th book and I am just loving how big this story is getting. Matt Dinniman really did create a whole world and he's doing such an amazing job adding characters and making things "bigger" without overloading the reader to do it. I can tell this series will be an annual reread for me - it just rose to the top for when I need something to pull me out of a funk or if I'm having a difficult time and just need to have a load of laughs. :D

Your hair looks amazing, Lezlie. This week I read: *Comics* Thor God of Thunder: God Butcher Written by Jason Aaron | Art by Esad Ribic - I finally got around to reading the whole thing, Fantastic! Someone is going around the universe slaying deities, and we see that individual's affect on Thor in 3 stages of his life, the young warrior not yet worthy of Mjolnir, the current Thor, and Thor the Old King of Asgard and we see Thor grapple with his own divinity and striving to be a god worthy of worship. I'm not religious, I'm not spiritual but I'd follow Marvel's Thor. *Fantasy* Wars of Light & Shadow 2: Ships of Merior - Brilliant. Can't wait to continue! As for what I'm currently reading: *Comics* Astonishing X-Men Complete Collection Volume 1 Written by Joss Whedon | Art by John Cassaday - I read bits here and there as a kid but now I'm going back to the beginning. I've dipped my toes here and there over the years as the X-Men comics always intimidated me (despite my love of the cartoons and films, well some of them) but I'm finally doing it. Green Lantern Book One Written by Geoff Johns | Art by Ethan Van Scriver - I read Secret Origins years ago which really endeared me to Hal cuz growing up my Green Lanterns were Alan Scott because I was reading Justice Society and John Stewart because of the cartoons. *Fantasy* Malazan BotF 2: Deadhouse Gates (re-read) - Culling of nobles, religious uprising, and a refugee crisis await the Malazan Empire! *Mystery* Mystic River / Dennis Lehane Not much else going on with me other than passing my weight loss goal for the year.

Whoa!!! That's awesome that you passed your weight loss goal with FOUR months left - that's amazing...and also really freaking hard whether you're changing portion amounts, what you eat and how it's cooked. Good on you! Oh gosh, I *love* the Geoff Johns Green Lantern comics. I have the two huge bind ups of his arcs and now I'm wanting to pick them up and reread them again. (It would also double as weight lifting because have you SEEN these suckers?!) Maybe next year will be the year I get back to Malazan. It's funny because you're the third person this week that's mentioned reading Deadhouse Gates in particular. I was holding off to continue because I thought I'd be getting The Broken Binding editions and wanted to read those as they published, but TBB has gotten a little too rich for my blood. That and they take forever to actually produce and ship their books.

Love the fresh hair look! I recently cut mine a lot shorter again as well, but now it's at that awkward length where it is annoying in my neck, yet a little bun or pony tail doesn't quite work either, so that is not ideal in the summer 🤣 Anyway, YAY for Return of the Griffin, I am getting ready to dive into book 5 asap and I can't wait! And I really can't seem to escape the DCC hype hahah, glad you are having so much fun. Oh my goodness, that show is just incredible. I got a little pang in my heart just reading that you were watching it. :D I believe I read recently that there is a Season 2 coming or a spin off of some kind! I know exactly what stage you mean about your hair. I love wearing mine short, a little shorter than where you describe yours now, but I also need to be able to put it up in a bun because it is SO damn hot in Florida and the humidity makes me look like a Q-tip as soon as I step outside. The back, bottom section is always too short to go up, which is why I was growing it out. I came up with a solution: wear it short and then I got my hair girl to give me an undercut! Problem solved!

I absolutely LOVED Nettle and Bone 🖤 and I am very intrigued by this author, but I must admit that when it comes to horror, I’m a bit of a 🐓 I adored the dark and creepy ambient tone of Nettle and Bone (and the characters, especially the dust-wife and her devil Hen!). I’d like to know if her other, more “horror” books such as this, are really more scary or have enough corky humor to balance it off in the way Nettle and Bone did. I so want to read more of her work!
@TheNerdyNarrative
@TheNerdyNarrative 9 күн бұрын
I would put this one along the same lines of horror as Nettle and Bone - it's not the kind that's going to give you nightmares or keep you up at night, more along the lines of "I cannot believe this person would do this" - now there is one particular scene that - that has definitely stuck with me because I visualize books as I read them, but it's just the one.

As burnout and tired as I am with the MCU (I exclusively kept up with Spider-man post Endgame and didn't like them (i know, unpopular opinion 😅), I'm tempted to watch Deadpool & Wolverine. This week I finished: *Fantasy* Rain Wild Chronicles 1: Dragon Keeper - I'm glad I took a few months away to adjust expectations, its honestly not as "bad" as I was led to believe. Its fine. As for what I'm currently reading: *Fantasy* Wars of Light & Shadow 2: Ships of Merior - About 210 pages in, I'm not loving Dakar as a character but everything else is cool. Imagine if Robin Hobb took a Wheel of Time approach but with a Malazan-esque story. EDIT: i meant a Malazan approach to a WoT esque story 😅 *Horror / Thriller* Joe Ledger 1: Patient Zero - About a third of the way through, its picked. Simultaneously, Joe is a badass but also reads a bit too much like a power fantasy. *Western* Streets of Laredo / Larry McMurtry - Slowly chipping away, I'm loving catching up with some of our returning characters from Lonesome Dove.

That's good to hear about the Rain Wild Chronicles - I'll be sure to allow some time between the different arcs when I get back to work on RoTE. It's the best thing that's coming out in that franchise in YEARS. lol
