thanks, man. yeah, it's looking promising so far. H335 and X-terminator did the best I was hoping that benchmark or IMR4198 would be the top performer since they are a more temp stable. We'll see, though, maybe since those were the first 30 rounds on the barrel, it affected the results.

@EverydayReloadingandShooting yeah, they are arnt they. the 6br makes it easy, easier may be a better way to put it. I've always said the 6br family of cartridges has been making reloaders and gunsmith look like heroes since 1978. lol.

after you get your desired velocity, sd, es, arent you supposed to move on to seating depth to see if they close or open and further?
@reloadingfun11 күн бұрын
@Erik7prc kinda, i guess. depending on how well i know the bullet and powder combo, I don't always go for a desired velocity. I go for what powder charge shoots best, and i usually include the ES in that determination. but yes, i usually play with seating depth afterward. which i plan on doing later on. Hopefully this rifle will shoot good with a longer jump to the lands because at mag length, there is already about .100 jump. we'll see.... ive also found that I often need to adjust powder a little after i find the optimum seating depth. starting with a seating depth test, then powder has yielded the same results as starting with powder.

Are you shooting free recoil with this setup?
@reloadingfun11 күн бұрын
@Erik7prc no, i don't shoot free recoil. why do you ask?
@Erik7prc11 күн бұрын
@reloadingfun because when I see people shooting off skis and a mat they're usually shooting free recoil. I tried it with accutac skis and adjustable bag rider. Haven't been too successful but I'm still strying 😄
@reloadingfun11 күн бұрын
@Erik7prc oh ok, i see. are you trying to shoot free recoil? maybe the shorter width of the accu tac bipod is making it harder to shoot consistent. in F-class, we're actually not allowed to shoot free recoil, so i had to learn how not to shoot free recoil. I use lots of shoulder pressure and very light cheek pressure. having a good rear bag like an edgewood is really important. you usually want the bag to be as firm as possible.

Hope you got a good supply of the 55gr berger I'm pretty sure they disconnected those in 20cal. I run the 35 an 40gr berger in my 204 ruger
@reloadingfun22 күн бұрын
@waynemayle865 I think berger may have at one point, but now grafs and sons have them made and keep them in stock. I wish there was a 50 grain option, so a 9" twist would could be used so you dont have to worry about them coming apart and getting the full BC. thankfully.

I started shooting the 6BR in 1978..made the cases from 7BR. You are using the wrong powder! Vihtavuori N - 135 is the powder for the 6BR (Lapua) as N - 133 is the powder for the 6PPC. Dont waste your time using this American/Australian powders. Do not work in the 6BR. I know..after shooting thousands of rounds using Hart, Shilen, Krieger and Bartlein barrels in a HV class BR custom rifles.

20 Practical is my vote. People who don’t know about this caliber would benefit from hearing about the ballistic characteristics, that the brass is easy to make from abundant supplies of 5.56 brass, Lake City is an excellent option. It’s got the performance of a 204 Ruger, but not requiring expensive and hard to find brass, etc. It’s inherently accurate, low recoil, easy to find barrels from major barrel companies.

@reloadingfun looking at the 20tac. I built a 6×45 last year and like it. Going to talk to my gunsmith first to see if he has any recommendations for a fun little round.
@reloadingfun Жыл бұрын
@justbaggit70 oh, yeah, i like that one, too. the 30° shoulder would be nice. speaking of shoulders, something with a 40° shoulder would be nice, mainly just to eliminate case trimming. what about a 20 vartarg?
@justbaggit70 Жыл бұрын
@reloadingfun ive looked at it. Was just thinking also how much 223 brass i have and the 20p or 20tac are easier to form. Dont mind doing some work but did not really want labor intensive forming. Also wondering on feding from a bdl mag. 221 fireball has my eye also. Going to check with my smith to see what he has ran into feeding wise
@reloadingfun Жыл бұрын
@justbaggit70 I have some experience with a 221 fireball in a remington 700 lvsf. it uses a specific mag box, follower and spring. they also put the extractor in a different location. when setup like this, the 221 case operates pretty reliably, I never had an issue. I've tried with a regular 223 setup, and the case pops out of the magwell and doesn't feed reliably, and without the extractor moved, the case will not eject. It will just fall back into the action.
