How, as Daisy suggests, does Romeo kill himself and then Juliet?!
@johnking5174
@johnking5174 Жыл бұрын
The deaths of Romeo and Juliet occur in a sequence of compounding stages: first, Juliet drinks a potion that makes her appear dead. Thinking her dead, Romeo then drinks a poison that actually kills him. Seeing him dead, Juliet stabs herself through the heart with a dagger. Sorry for being pedantic.

Stephen Fry has told stories as though he was present, when they are in books I read decades before. I would bet he had read them, too. One was the QI story about a Cockney saying, I'm not antiseptic (anti Yank), but... He quoted it pretty well word for word, but said he had been talking to a cheeky chappie. It is a bit disappointing, because he has actually had huge opportunities to meet so many history makers, but now I am a bit cynical of everything he claims. He may know the facts, but his claims to have hobnobbed and chatted with history makers, observed quirks amongst interesting characters... and really, it seems so oddly insecure. If it was just once... but it is repeated. But now, I am permanently dubious.

Hey David, do you know that the pass/fail cutoff line is? I've heard you can get as many as 15 incorrect and still pass, is that true? I just finished taking the test and feel okay about it, not great, I may have gotten 12 - 15 wrong I'm guessing, should that be good enough to pass? Yeah, there are a few questions I wish I knew more about, shoot, but I think I did alright, not bad. Anyway, what's the next step in the process? Is it true that if you get called you actually have to take another test when you go to the audition site? Is this before the interviews and mock-up game? Personally, I would rather not have to get on a plane to go to the audition site only to be screened out by another more difficult test, let alone personality and other qualities to be discovered by the interview process. Thanks.
@dpmattingly
@dpmattingly 5 жыл бұрын
The rumored passing line that I've always heard is 35 right, but I've never seen or heard anything to back that up. It may be different on each test based on a curve. Keep in mind also that even if you do great on the test, there's no guarantee that you'll get called for an audition, I'm fairly sure there's an element of randomness in who gets called back. As a veteran of the audition process, here's a few tips. The audition has three steps to it: a second test, a mock game, and an interview portion. The test is another 50-question test in the same format. It's even a little easier than the online test since you can skip questions and come back to them if you think of the answers. It's basically just a check to make sure you didn't cheat on the online test by having somebody else take it in your stead. After the test, regardless of how you do, they'll invite you up three at a time to play a quick mock game with buzzers. Here's the important thing about this step that a lot of people miss: they're not testing your knowledge here. They want to know that you know how to play the game and, more importantly, how to keep the game moving. Nobody's keeping score. So, after you buzz in with a correct response, quickly pick another clue off the board, any clue, even if it isn't a category you feel great in. So many times during my auditions I would see somebody buzz in, pause, consider the board, pause, and slowly say "I think I'd like to try blah blah blah..." Those people weren't getting called back. Finally, after your mock game, they'll ask each person to say a little bit about yourself, and what you'd do with the money if you won. If you're like me and not good at thinking on your feet or being personable, do what I did and write down beforehand what you're going to say and practice it. I didn't recite my script word-for-word, but I knew what I wanted to say and I hit all the important beats, and that made the process a lot easier. Aside from all that, if there's one more piece of advice I can give, it's to always follow the directions of the coordinators. If they say to speak louder, SPEAK LOUDER. If they say to hammer your buzzer when trying to buzz in during the mock game, HAMMER the sucker. So, so, so many people would have to be repeatedly told the same thing over and over again, and I can guarantee you that they ain't getting onto the show. I can't guarantee success even if you follow all of this advice, but just by showing up prepared and following directions, you'll be in a good position to be selected. And even if you don't get selected, the audition experience itself is quite fun, so make a day out of it anyway. It took me three in-person auditions before I got picked, but even the ones that didn't pan out were fun.
@mydogskips2

@@dpmattingly Are you saying that people smart enough to potentially get on Jeopardy! aren't good at following directions? Haha "So, after you buzz in with a correct response, quickly pick another clue off the board, any clue, even if it isn't a category you feel great in. So many times during my auditions I would see somebody buzz in, pause, consider the board, pause, and slowly say "I think I'd like to try blah blah blah..." Those people weren't getting called back. " Yeah, I think one of the most basic things people overlook when playing at home is the fact that you have to actually pick the clue, and as you say, doing so quickly to keep the game moving. It may seem a small thing, but I imagine it could complicate things quite a bit, you have to say a lot more things in rapid-fire succession while trying to keep everything straight and still answer the questions right. Thank you, David, I appreciate your response and all the good tips, I'll definitely keep them in mind if I"m fortunate enough to get a call. And, I have to say again, thank you for beating Ryan Fenster. : )

I've taken the test a few times over the past few years too, and I'm pretty sure I've passed each time, I mean the questions are pretty easy and I figure I got less than 10 wrong each time, but I've never gotten a call or any notice.
