Death is an angel sent down from above sent for the buds and the flowers we love Truly 'tis so for in heaven's own way each soul is a flower in the Master's bouquet Gathering flowers for the Master's bouquet beautiful flowers that will never decay Gathered by angels and carried away forever to bloom in the Master's bouquet [ ac.guitar ] Loved ones are passing each day and each hour passing away as the life of a flower But every bud and each blossom some day Will bloom as the flowers in the Master's bouquet Gathering flowers... [ organ ] Let us be faithful till life's work is done blooming with love till the reaper shall come Then we'll be gathered together for age Transplanted to bloom in the Master's bouquet Gathering flowers...

I don't think Hank recorded this song. There's radio broadcasts of him singing this song, but not a formal recording session, as far as I know.

Well, you learn something new, every day. It is referred to as an unreleased recording which, of course, means that he never recorded it on a record while he was alive so you are correct. I would have never guessed that fact if you had not responded with this comment to this cover. Thank you very much for enlightening me to this fact. Hank still wrote this number, however, and I have to think that it was one of his best songs, even if he never released it. Thank you once again for parting this knowledge upon me. I hope my cover did this song justice. I'm no Hank Williams but I will always be a great fan of his.

Many war songs of the Irish, Welsh, and Scots were disguised with other peaceful names or lullabys when the English conquered the country, but everyone knew the old song. I love this song. It also sounds good on the recorder.

There's a land that is fairer than day, And by faith we can see it afar; For the Father waits over the way To prepare us a dwelling place there. In the sweet by and by, We shall meet on that beautiful shore; In the sweet by and by, We shall meet on that beautiful shore. We shall sing on that beautiful shore The melodious songs of the blessed; And our spirits shall sorrow no more, Not a sigh for the blessing of rest. In the sweet by and by, We shall meet on that beautiful shore; In the sweet by and by, We shall meet on that beautiful shore. To our bountiful…

Wow... totally different from the version I remember from NCN, CMT and CKJB radio in Timmins, or even the Capitol Tavern in Iroquois Falls where me and my best friend, Jessy, both 12 at the time, would sit outside and listen to Jim play the mainstream version... still amazing job!
@elgerheath96554 жыл бұрын
First...thanks for listening to this video. It has been a while since I recorded this and so I had to go back to Jim's original recording to see what you were talking about. Definitely the timing and style is different, that's for sure, but if you're gonna play music you have to learn to do things your own way or there's just no point in doing it. You might as well sit back and listen to the commercial recording. Also, due to the fact that I don't have a full band behind me, and I only play guitar, it necessitates a change in the way the tune is played. Add to that, the fact, that I am not a good guitarist and I HAD to change the way I played the piece. Anything is fair in love and MUSIC. I guess I had a bit of a problem making the song work because I completely left out the change-over, (that is the verse that deviates form the basic pattern of the song). I can't believe that I did that but I guess I just couldn't figure out how to make that part work. I usually wouldn't do that, with any other song. Maybe I will go back and re-record it to include the change-over verse. You see, I'm not a professional and I'm not in the business to sell anything. I'm just making these recordings for the fun of it and posting them here. Hope you enjoyed the recording, and DO check out some of the other recordings on my channel. Have a great day.

@@elgerheath9655 OMG... I totally missed the part of this being a cover... I actually thought this was Jim Matt and this was simply a demo version of the song and the Record company told him to spice it up! Total misunderstanding on my part. haha my apologies.

Not American, not at all
@elgerheath96554 жыл бұрын
First, I hope you enjoyed the piece. as I recorded it. Second, if you took the time to read the lengthy, original description that I left for the video, you'll note that I explained that both the song, "The Minstrel Boy" and the original piece pf music, "The Moreen", where written in and Ireland by the Irish so I DID point out that this was not an American piece of music. Unfortunately, the placard video was created, before I even knew what the piece was. I had a suspicion, at the time of recording this piece, that it was somehow connected with the American Civil War. Thus I presumed that it must have been held as a part of American Folk Music and I included a distinctly American theme to the placard of the video. (p.s. I'm NOT a U.S citizen either. I'm Canadian so I'm not making claims of any national rights to the creation of this piece.. That would just be silly.) It turned out, however, that there was a link between this piece of music and the American Civil War as it was very popular among-st the Irish regiments fighting on both sides of that conflict, so..., it DOES have a place among-st American Folk Music, in that regard. I hope that you now understand that this video was not intended as a slight against the Irish. I'll admit to a certain amount of ignorance, as pertaining to this piece's origin, at first, but I soon cleared that up and gave full credit to the original source of these pieces of music. I hope that this clarifies your confusion about my intentions around the presenting of this music.
@edwardmorton66912 жыл бұрын
When you study the history of many folk songs, you'll often find that their origins lie hidden under layers of dust that takes much effort to blow off. The tune is probably the most difficult element to uncover simply because lots were never formally written down by the composer and more often than not learned by ear from some who had learned it by ear and so on , therefore can an air really ever be said to be 100% Irish, Scots, English, American, etc. Also, what if a tune was composed by an English person living in Ireland, is the tune English or Irish? I'm always very cautious about nailing tunes to Nations as it often is more complicated than we first think. The music is the most important thing, so let's just enjoy it and not distract ourselves with ownership competitions.

@elgerheath96555 жыл бұрын
Not sure what you mean by advertised as "sung by Jimmie Davis"? Are you saying that the singer in this recording is not Jimmie Davis? I never said that it was Jimmie Davis singing in this recording. I said it was written and recorded by Jimmie Davis. That is the person that most folks would associate this song with. Below that line I stated that this cover of the tune was performed by Ben Poliquin. Ben is a good friend of mine and I captured this cover on tape at a house jam. Ben is the singer you hear in this video. A cover is a tune some artist made famous, but was played or sung by someone else. If you are saying that Jimmie Davis never recorded a record of this tune then that is news to me. If you feel that someone else deserves credit for originally recording, or writing this hit, I'd certainly appreciate hearing who you think did record it. I would consider updating this information if it is wrong. ...always glad to know that someone cared enough to comment on one of my videos
