Thinking of buying the aquaracer, caliber 16 , its used which puts me off a bit because its one thousand pounds and i dont want to waste that money on buying the tag only to find out a year down the line it needs work on the automatic movement or something else just as bad.
@ShahLusso
@ShahLusso 4 күн бұрын
Unfortunately servicing is something that rears its head one way or the other with mechanical movements - though admittedly the Calibre 16 is based on an ETA7750 or Sellita SW500, so as far as automatic chronographs go its one of the cheapest to run because of how many watchmakers know how to work on it and readily available replacement parts. Best bet though to buy yourself some peace of mind is to buy it pre-owned with a warranty. More and more pre-owned dealers are offering warranties on watches, Chronext and Watchfinder both offer 2 year warranties, I bought my Breiting Chronomat a few years ago from a smallerindependent dealer that offered a 1 year warranty (bold considering it was a 30 year old watch), but you can find dealers out there that do it :)

Mine is a tritium 1967 5513. Breathtaking, extraordinary. No need to swim with it. Spending 10K or more to go swim or dive now and then is preposterous. You don't need a Rolex for that.

I own 3536-01. Wear it on an IWC rubber strap from later model. Very nice watch, light, legible, and very scratch resistant. It's my travel/vacation watch, flies under the radar, don't have to worry about my safety when traveling in places plagued by watch theft, be that London, Paris, or developing countries where a watch with more bling/recognition may prove to be an attractive target. I've only had one person ever comment about it when wearing, and he was a serious watch enthusiast. In my opinion, if it was 40mm and just a tad thinner, it would be perfect. But those are nitpicks, it's a great, rugged watch. Totally underrated. Appreciate your video. Prices have been climbing, get yours now, Gents!

Buying an in-house movement is like buying a used Rangerover or Audi. A certain headache. I can repair an ETA 7750 or an 08 Dodge Ram 1500 fairly easily. But, that isn't what buying high-end watches is about. It isn't about what is practical or intelligent. Or, what is mechanically sound. It is about satisfying the ego. I'd buy a $30k Rolex if the spot value of the precious metal content of that watch was $20k as of today. Their products are around $1k-6k in precious metal content on average. Where is the ''value'' outside of name recognition? It's all a BS social status gimmick with watches. I've driven supercars. They are different than watches. That is a poor comparison. The only objective competition variables between different automatic watch movements is accuracy and longevity. A supercar can do a lot of shit that an 08 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck can't. There is value addition. There is little to no value addition with this BS market of ''high-end'' watches. It is just branding value. That isn't objective value.

Hi Shah, what does Javid typically charge for a Pasha strap on a deployant clasp?
@ShahLusso
@ShahLusso 17 күн бұрын
Ufff it’s been a long time since I got these straps - and from what I remember it did vary depending on the leather you pick, my recommendation would be to reach out to him directly and he’ll give you a quote based on what you’re after. Regarding the clasp, I actually purchase my clasps separately from strapsco.com for my pasha’s straps, those were around US$20 if I remember right (also best to check though since it was a while ago) Hope that helps :)

It's a great watch. Like the Sub there are some *incredibly* good fakes made in China. The lug-to-lug is too much for a wrist under 7". The 3120 base movements (diver and chrono) are prone to ejecting the crown and crown stem, it's held onto the watch by a very small set screw. If yours comes off the watch, do NOT try to put it back yourself, take it to AP or a very good watchmaker.

#savage 😂 and yeah id love to do a feature about the in house movements vs the work they put into rebuilding 7750s before they went in house - from what I understand IWC was one of the few mainstream brands that was doing proper modifications to their ETAs instead of just dropping them in with a branded rotor and calling it a day 😅

why James Bond drove a DB 5 and weare a Sub? because they where just tool objects?
@ShahLusso
@ShahLusso Ай бұрын
The Aston I can’t speak for (though arguably at the time it would have counted as a performance car?) but the sub in the 60s and 70s when Bond wore it was still very much a tool watch that put function first over everything, and its pricing at that time while not cheap was still far off where they’re positioned today. But none of that is to say the Sub for example is a worse off watch for that, only that it was a purposeful watch that over time was made more luxurious while the Offshore is the result of a luxury watch being given a new purpose :)

My wife bought me one new back in the day. White dial with a great bracelet. It was on clearance because of the "scandal", which is the only way we could have ever afforded one back then. Uff must've been a steal back in the "scandal" days! Yeah i love how against the grain it goes, but IMO it really is one of those watches that you need to look past the optics or image of it to see that it's objectively a good watch - especially for what these pre-owned ones go for these days.

Interesting I’m having a challenge to decide between the IWC pilot or Breitling Navitimer
@ShahLusso
@ShahLusso Ай бұрын
It's a tough choice, both are iconic pilot watches and both have modern iterations with uprated movments or neo-vintage models with 7750s for crazy good value. I guess the big deciding factor is the information overload from all the scales on the Navitimer, or the cleaner look of the Pilot's Watch, but both are great watches with tons of fun dial, bracelet and movement variaitons (though when it comes to bracelets the IWC wins hands down)
@smokinscars1024

@ShahLusso think you should do a video a comparison for both watches , they both are 41mm, both are chronograph, this would be exciting to watch
@ShahLusso
@ShahLusso Ай бұрын
I'd love to do that comparison, I just need to get my hands on the right Navitimer for it - the few times I've had a chance its usually one of the ETA 2892 based ones, personally I'd rather feature one of the 7750 or B01 based Navitimers so it's a proper comparison to the older Pilots or the current ones respectively, but it's definitely a review that's on my to-do list once I get a chance to shoot the Navitimer.

Very good review. I agree with most of your commentary. I like the watch but also now you would be aware there is the similar Quaranta (yes...now with 100m WR, so not so bad as the previous 30m but still not 300m, although it is probably thinner as a benefit for smaller wrists than PAM70). I am, however, confused about the difference between your PAM70 and the similar older 40mm blue PAM119. Any thoughts on that? I was looking for a 119 then saw this!
@ShahLusso
@ShahLusso Ай бұрын
True the Quaranta is definitely a step in the right direction and with the 100M water resistance it's at least worthy of Panerai's maritime history, but it did take them way too long to come out with it after sitting on the Due for a long time. As for the 70 vs the 119, from what i can tell the only difference is the bezel is polished on the 119 and brushed on the 70, so the PAM70 is just that tiny bit more stealthy. Hope that helps & thanks for watching :)

I just had it first time in my hand in a Seiko boutique. It felt great, it looks awesome and it is dangerously close to the luxury section of Grand Seiko. Honestly I don't see a reason to buy a King Seiko for twice the price. One employee said it might be that these models will not be delivered anymore, but he wasn't sure about. He though that the new Classic line might be replace the Sharp edge, which would be a shame. The red dial in the day light was just such a stunner and I think I will add it to my collection.
