In one of his solos acoustic live clips, Vaden mentions that this song is about his dad, and that he will never allow him to hear it as long as he is alive. I thought The Appeal was amazing as a regular ol' broken heart love song, but when I heard the explanation, I got the chills.

I've always wondered about this. Surely his dad would have listened to his son's music. It is likely that he has heard it on his own. Unless he specifically asked his father not to listen to it. But that sort of curiosity is difficult for humans. I believe his dad has heard it, but may not be aware of the story behind it.
