I know that I stopped watching after gear 5. I preferred it when the Gum Gum was just a paramecia type, that way it was like an underdog who had a weak power and just creatively used it and could take out even beings who had far greater powers through hard work and creativity alone. Now that it is revealed that it is a mythical zoan type and effectively a god, it just takes that away and just becomes another, surprise our main protagonist was a chosen one all along. It just takes away from the drama more than Saitama takes the drama from One Punch Man as a walking deus ex machina in his world, at least until garou (and even that was temporary and had to be undone with time travel). Not only that but there do not seem to be too many risks with the whole Gear 5 thing, like it would be interesting if it awakened another consciousness in Luffy and he had to confront the madness of Joy Boy and had to battle in his mind from being taken over by the insane laughing God. But nope, no consequences to him or his crew at all besides higher bounties and the Gorosei. So I stopped watching for that reason, plus I feel that One Piece or any manga that runs this long tends to overstay its welcome.
