Hello Sir, is there a formula to calculate the limiting value of vibrational amplitude in horizontal and vertical directions. The book gives a graph but is there an empirical formula for this?

@msajjadh Can you please enlighten how can we simulate multiple scenarios, i.e. accidental. overspeeding etc. in a staad model. I understand we can be done with multiple models. but can we combine them in one using different load cases?

Good question, let me think over it.

I have a question,as you have said that the billboard should be safe ....after finding the wind load acting on the billboard ,how do you use that value to determine whether the bill board is safe against that wind. Does the codes state that !!or we should just go further use the wind load we get to design the foundation,the steel bolts etc.... Thank you

Thanks alot sir for valuable explanation. I have 2 questions.. 1. As per ASCE 7-10 and onwards, importance factor is excluded fron eq of qh, and wind load combos are having 1.0 rather than 1.6 compared to older version but this is because they linked velocity with risk category , so the wind velocity that we are selecting to be multiplied by factors > 1 depending on risk category. Explain this please..Q2. How the calculated Moment should be applied to the structure when if it is a truss ? Please explain thanks

OK, I shall try to explain un my next video.

A very interesting lecture. Is it possible for you to share the Excel file? I would like to use it as one of my examples in my class. Thanks.

I hope you wouldn't join the bandwagon of connecting weightless rigid entities with high flexural rigidity to the centre of gravities of the driver and driven package. I.e if those are the location where the dynamic loads are generated as this can be done differently without the modelling of rigid connecting beams as I see most of you online tutors. To apply lateral dynamic loads at a centre of gravity which is located above a modelled block foundation (note plate elements are also used, especially if a static design is also required), you apply the principle of transmissibility and transfer the lateral harmonic loads to the top of your block as well as the corresponding harmonic moments. This eliminates the modelling of rigid entities in a STAAD model. Also note that for most centrifugal machines that are connected to the foundation through tie-down pad plates like a gas-turbine driven generator, the unbalance forces are generated at the rotors and transferred unattenuated to the pad plates and not at the C.O.G of the equipment packages
@msajjadh Жыл бұрын
You are right, I could have transfer the forces in the line of their action (using the principle of transmissibility, as suggested by you). I preferred to model the massless members for easy understanding. You may post an example as you suggested.
@PROCCIEngineeringNigeriaLtd Жыл бұрын
I am wondering how I'll post this here as there are no possibilities to share attachments as I've designed several turbine-driven compressor foundations, gas turbine generators, etcetera based on multiple degree of freedom with STAAD to extract the time-varying deformation (in x, y, z directions), time-dependent quadratic mean velocity of vibration in addition to the time-dependent acceleration of the finite element foundation. Not excluding the response frequencies and vibration modes. If I can share attachments here I would have sent in a couple of these design reports for machines foundations engineered for a number of multinationals for onshore production gas and power plants designed in accordance with DIN-4024's requirements as well as provisions of API 686. This includes piled block foundations where restraints from the stratified soil formation are derived from the appropriate pile-soil interaction theory. You're doing a good job by the way

Although I did not use ETABS 18, but in my opinion, you should be able to transfer data from ETABS 2018 to SAFE 2016. Certainly SAFE is a better choice.
