What you failed to mention is that all this is possible in Jpeg only. In Raw the lens terribly distorts the image with the corners of your image darkened out.I'm told thos can be corrected in post, but moving here from Pentax I'm pretty shocked that a native full-frame lens has these characters. For now it will stay in my bag because it is so small, but yuck another reason I'm regretting a mirrorless move to Canon.

Hi, the in camera correction works in raw files as well, as long as you use a supported raw convertor like lightroom. Unfortunately relying on camera correction is currently the trend in lens design, in order to try to make smaller lenses. Even the expensive L lens and Sony GM lens rely on in camera correction. Of course cheaper lenses will require more correction.

Hi, I don't own this lens anymore as I find the zoom range restrictive. I now have the RF24-105mm f4-7.1. What lens to get depends a lot on your budget.

I've been really enjoying using my Canon R8 so far. The money is always in the glass though. The kit lenses never do a camera justice. Can't wait to test my 85mm Macro lens soon!

@@Im_sun_tzucinematic is a fickle word. It doesn’t really have a definition. The kit lenses on these things are crap. Just buy the body only, you could invest in any manual lens. You could adapt older Canon FD lenses to RF mount, or push into native RF mount and go for an L series lens for the R8. If you want “cinematic” get a fast lens, F2.8 or faster, and a good starting focal length would be 50mm, 35mm, or 28mm. But most of all, experiment, and you’ll figure out your specific style; and what you need to achieve that!

After changing the LCD, I noticed a blue streak on it. Do you know if this is caused by poor installation or is the problem with the screen itself? The streak does not appear in the photos, so I could even leave it as it is, but I don't know if it will affect the life of the camera.

@@Im_sun_tzu actually I got my r8 with the kit lens it’s good and being kit lens it’s cheaper from $420 to $200 with the camera. Good for video stills and has image stability which compensate for the camera not having it

@@Im_sun_tzu some sigma lenses can work. That’s the problem with canon cameras not many other party companies work the selection limited. But I have used the kit lens for 2 months it’s good remember to buy with image stabilization lenses

Thank you for this review. I believe I will pick up one of these budget friendly, compact lenses. I’ve seen so many reviews complaining about this lens and people seem to forget its purpose and price point. It’s a starter/kit lens for those getting into the Canon mirrorless ecosystem. I purchased a Canon R6 MKII and immediately added an RF 50mm f/1.8 STM. I have several EF & EF-S lenses I can adapt to my new R62 but I also want a few compact RF lenses. Great video and extremely detailed

Hello and thank you for this video. Do you think the Canon R8 is really better than the Canon RP for Photo? Is the RF 25-50 lens really good? I have the RF 50 f 1.8 and the RF 24 f1.8 IS STM, could the RF 24-50 replace them in daylight conditions? I do not make videos, only photos, thank you in advance for your answers. Thanks for your comment. Is the RP limiting you in any way? If not, R8 won't serve you better. To me, the obvious advantage is the dynamic range and the fast shooting (autofocus and FPS). So it really depends on what you shoot. If you don't shoot sport or wildlife and not bothered by the RP dynamic range, you better off save the money for lenses. With regards to the RF24-50, I really like the size but I prefer longer range. So I prefer the 24-105 over it. However, size and weight is unrivalled. It balances so well on the R8 (likely also the RP as they are mostly the same body).
