A reality check is needed here. I am a prostate patient who is currently under treatment with BC Cancer in 2024, here is my recent experience. Both my urologist and my oncologist refused to even fill out applications for a PSMA-PET scan, arguing that even though an application could be made,I would not get a response for a year and if I was not involved in a trial I would be refused the scan! In the meantime I have had 11 scans and still have not got conclusive results as to the location of any any or all mets ! My treatment was started by a urologist long before I got to see an oncologist and the urologist failed to inform me that a private PSMA-PET scan was available in Burnaby and by the time I found out it was too late as my PSA had dropped from 35 to below measurable levels rendering the scan results useless! I have done extensive research and sought outside advice from the medical profession and as a result I severed my relationship with the urologist who in my opinion was not forthright with me and as far as I am concerned had no business staging my treatment instead of passing me on to a trained oncologist. The medical system as far as cancer treatment in BC is seriously broken, understaffed, and ill equipped. Presentations such as Dr.Alexander's are mis representing the current 2024 reality of BC Cancer Treatment...we are years behind the times with far too much emphasis on research and far too little on treatment.

If equipement was available, wouldn't this be a better way to initially identify cancer, rather than a biopsy?

Allows earlier pinpointing of reoccurrence, thus shortening that awkward wait time between BCR and being able to image the cancer.

Up to you getting told you had cancer .... same story as mine . I went from a 10 year base line at .2 and . 3 psa , then to 2.5 the next year , then 3.0, then, 3.8 .... then I said “ enough” we must have a specialist team on this , I’ll be dead in 4 years if this keeps up !!! BE YOUR OWN ADVOCATE.
