Hey I see you are already having some of them in semi hydro, which is a good thing for Anthuriums. However perhaps the substrate you use is not conducive to nutrient absorption. For one, your pot with all Pumice only needs to have other stuff mixed in, such as Akadama (30% ratio to pumice) because Pumice by itself doesn’t allow the roots to uptake nutrients well. Also, do you use nutrient solution or just water? Lastly, to share what I use, I use pafcal chips, nutrient solution, in semi hydro setup with a wick. I have it w a glow light. Spray the leaves with water every week to help clear them of potential pests (yeah and good air circulation is necessary for this ) no problem far. Hope this helps.
@guywithaplant9 күн бұрын
Thanks for your feedback regarding the pumice. That's great info 🙂 For those in semi-hydro, I do use some liquid nutrients. Oh, I've never heard of pafcal before. Let me see if I can get my hands on some. Really appreciate your advice and thanks for watching 🙏
@gaddaitherage82049 күн бұрын
@ yeah pafcal is a synthetic spongy material developed by Toyota Suntory. They are often used in plants you get in Muji stores, except they come in chips form. It is an absolute miracle material- same aeration quality as pumice and aroid mixes but with lots more water retention. I am pretty sure they are available in Singapore because I get them readily in HK. good luck! You have a beautiful collection!

Ah that sounds like a great medium. OK, I'll check that out. Thanks. You have been really helpful. I'm still learning more about this beautiful genus

@@guywithaplant I have the most common anthurium from the supermarket (in Canada), so cannot speak from personal experience but I have watched a lot of plant people who do have and grow them on moss poles. If you look at Sydney Plant Guy, he has quite a few on poles and the leaves get HUGE! It is really neat to see but I think I am more about Alocasias and philodendrons.
@guywithaplant9 күн бұрын
@@nikhicormier5815ah I see. I do watch Sydney plant guy's video but I can't recall what Anthurium did he use a moss pole for. OK, let me re-watch some of his vids again. Thanks 😊

I got a blue oil a few months ago. It came in soil but I just (a week ago) put into a 50/50 mix of pearlite and vermiculite (chunky versions) . Mine also dropped leaves nearly every time I watered it until I took it out of the pot and saw that it's rootsystem is absolutely TINY. The reason it was dropping the leaves was because it wouldn't use the water in the pot. So I put it into SH and it's having no issues so far. I'd love an updated care guide on this guy as there isn't really many out there.
@guywithaplant21 күн бұрын
Ohhh do let me know how does it fare in SH. I know it doesn't like to dry out. It has been about 2 years and it's still chugging along but its growth has stalled. I changed it to a gritty potting medium and doesn't get very bright light. Maybe I should give it a bit more light and see if it grows better. Yes, I hardly see any care guide about the blue oil fern.

@guywithaplantАй бұрын
Oh this is a custom one. I ordered it locally but they assembled it in Indonesia and delivered after one month. I also like the frame of it and how woody it is.
@JustAnotherHotDayАй бұрын
I bought one off the discount rack at my local nursery because it had one leaf left. It was completely bronze and being supported on a broken stem with a tie. I had intended to get it growing and resell at full price later. I even brought it with me to a few sales, after the first new leaf opened. Now, I think I'm going to keep it because it is so beautiful! It's been about 3 months and I went from a single dying leaf, to 1 big happy leaf, to 7 more... It might have a few corms in the pot but, I think I will leave it be for the season and part them out in the spring. I have it in a clear pot, to keep an eye on the soil. I was originally worried that I put it in an extremely pearlite heavy cactus soil but, it seems happy enough. I water it maybe once a week, if that and figure as long as the leaves look happy and have their single drip on the tip, they are watered enough.
@guywithaplantАй бұрын
It's always nice to hear rehab stories 😃. Look out for those corms! Mine is struggling now with mealies and spider mites 😕. I also repotted the small offset (again) into a bigger pot but it doesn't seem to like it.

What are the different potting soils you used?

I think the original potting mix had more coco peat and more dense but the newer one had more perlite and pumice, which is looser and airy.
