Almost everyone speaks Castellano. I felt very guilty speaking Castellano to people in Barcelona when the local language is Catalan, but nobody seemed to have any trouble speaking back to me in Castellano. And on a side note, these languages are really not that different from each other, except for Basque. Nobody can understand them at all. Their language is not related to anything else in the modern world.

Basque is a completely unrelated language. It's not even related to Indo-European languages. The rest varies from dialect to separate languages of the Ibero-Romance group.

@@dd_tags Yeah "Spain" was a bunch of different cultures, ethnicities and kingdoms. It wasn't until Isabella I of the Kingdom of Castile and Ferdinand II of the Kingdom of Aragon married in the 15th Century that a united Spain came into existence, and the language of the Kingdom of Castile (Castilian) became widespread throughout Spain, now known as simply Spanish (though it's still referred to as Castellano if you want to be specific). Spain was once many kingdoms. There were the Kingdom of Asturias, The Umayyad Caliphate of Al-Andalus, Kingdoms of Navarre, León, Castile, Aragon, Toulouse, Vandalusia, Toledo, Emirate of Granada, and the Vasconic tribes, Celts, Moors, Visigoths, Arabs, and even was territorially partly Portugal, well Portugal split from Spain, lol. The languages have always been there. Not just Castilian Spanish.
