Very helpful video I got my veterinary assistant certificate back in 2019 I haven’t worked in the field i went to interviews never got a call back and just gave up! Is there any advice you can give me on how to get back in ?? I’m not sure how to explain the gap from me graduating till now

I just retired from my first career, planning to begin a new career as an assistant, remote learning during the Covid pandemic. Of course, when I started my practicum, we were barely out of restrictions. I was so fortunate to find my practicum and subsequent employer. I walked in and literally had to ask to be taught how to restrain a dog, my first time! Now into all of it and loving it. The point is how you demonstrated it all; I felt like I succeeded when I could recognize your day! It made me smile... Thank you!

Im still a little confused vet tech and vet assistant are different things? There’s a position going on my local ver clinic level as vet assistant training program* not sure the difference since they don’t give much of an explanation

This is a bit misleading as assistants don’t draw blood. Depending on the state and hospital, they may. However that’s not a part of the job.

I have stated in another video that it depends on your state, but it is not necessarily misleading. I in fact do this, every day and it is 100% in my job description.

I'm from SoCal, and I'm a vet assistant. It really depends on the clinic. My old clinic, they wouldn't let me attempt injections or blood draws, but I work somewhere else that gives me the opportunity to do everything. Now I give SQ and IM injections, check vitals, do blood draws, anal gland expression. Have yet to put an IV in, but it's in the works as I go further to get comfortable with surgery stuff. Heck they let me read cytologies for ears and skin

I was reading about the vet techs but Unfortunately i don't really like surgrey, it just kinda grosses me out but I'm not sure if vet assistants help in surgreys. Btw i love watching your vids!

I went to school to be a veterinary assistant and now I'm fairly experienced and I've been to a interview lately and I have a working interview tomorrow I know what to expect for them to ask me to do just a little nervous if I don't know how to do something they will not hire me.

Just be honest, don’t try to fake it until you make it. Let them know your capabilities this way they can help you grow, and if they don’t hire you because you don’t know how to do some stuff, then that’s not a clinic want to be in !

@@emilykriebel651 some places are weird, take it as a blessing. You probably don’t need to be in a clinic that’s doesn’t want to help you grow. Show eagerness, tell them you’re interested in schooling (if you are) and keep trying. There’s tons of more hospitals out there

@@jacobneaville5557 haha vet med has a ton of dogs but also a lot of many other furry babies! Talk to your local vet hospitals, see if you can start in reception or maybe kennels or assisting if they’re willing to train!

Hey! So every state is different with what they allow assistants to do. Some states are more strict than others. Same goes for clinics, one clinic might allow a VA to do much more than another clinic. I live in Florida, technically you don’t “need” a license here to do this like blood draws and what not, which can be nice but also frustrating for some CVT’s.

Usually I get a weekday and alternating Saturday’s. Unfortunately the weekday isn’t always the same so one week maybe I’ll have Tuesday off and the next I’ll have a Thursday off

@@alliegarcia3904 the proctors are ok- some are of course harder then others. I highly recommend studying your textbook and notes. A lot of the material is derived from there. When you move onto the later semesters some of proctors will be research projects (essays) and such. You’ve got this! I’ve been working as an unlicensed tech for 5 years and feel that working in the field has helped me tremendously with the penn Foster program :)

Congrats and welcome to the shit show ! 😂😂 just kidding Keep a guideline for yourself! Set due dates because it is SO easy to fall off. Set time aside to study and dive into the learning. The first semester sucks, but I’m hoping it gets better and I’m excited for you go get started
