I never thought I'd say this but he's the first jazz fusion drummer that can play just about anything heavy he's proven it time and time again. Although my two faves Dave Lombardo, Aquiles Priester Thomas Lang Tommy Aldridge and the list goes on

I'm a drummer from yesterday. Back in the 80's I dated Gene Krupas neice Sandy Krupa who was also an amazing drummer. She could play a bell on a ride cymble that would scare you. At 5'5" and 115lb she reminded me many times who was the boss behind a drum kit in our relationship. Rip Sandy. I miss you muchly.

Look at how simplistic his kit is, and yet his skill makes it sound superior to most with a full drum set.

Great stuff to listen to! I would call this inspired jamming. These artists are beyond every level absolute reference. I love the way, they fit together: Technicaly as well as in their spirits!

I’ve always preferred Bellson’s drumming to Rich’s. There’s a musicality and nuance to his playing that is so much more pleasurable to listen to and learn from than pure speed and technicality. To me Bellson’s style was so much more innovative for big band jazz and this solo is a good example that gets to the heart of his drive for that innovation even years after big band music’s dominance . He had an approach to drums that transcended genre. Great clip!

Every time Drummerworld wipes all those beautiful comments clean away -- as though they had never existed-- i feel compelled to RE-EXPRESS, to REPEAT my almost boundless admiration for the sheer brilliance and electric performance of these 4 superb jazzz musicians, in which both Herbie and Pat BURN. This is DEFINITELY the most EXCITING version of Canteloupe Island that I have EVER HEARD.

The drum solo was LOVELY, and Mr Previte is obviously a highly talented, original and exciting drummer, but for me at least it fell completely to pieces after the tuba kicked in around 6 mins or so. Call me old-fashioned, but tubas just DON'T BELONG within modern jazz. .. And the the subsequent trad-like "stomping through the streets" feel didn't impress me either. IMO, Mr Previte needs either to start recording under his own name, or to join some group which can much more fittingly complement his inventiveness and dynamism. (Mind u, I've no idea WHEN this was recorded. He may have already done so LONG ago!!)
@alanuren5635Күн бұрын
he's "in" more groups than you can count...do some research-he's a legend and on many many recordings...you make it sound as if this is his only group ever and since you didn't like it, he "failed"...how absurd and short sighted (ignorant even?) of you to say such a thing about such an amazing artist that is still killing it today!!
@Riddim4Күн бұрын
He’s been recording under his own name for years.

@@alanuren5635: think of the tuba as a bass source. And go check out some NOLA brass bands. Dirty Dozen might be a good start.
