Hey Avinash, I have been thinking about getting a maruti zen for a project car. Would you recommend the older ones with carbureted engines or the later ones with MPFI engines?
@avinashkanive3 ай бұрын
Hey there! So mine is carbureted with manual steering and it’s a completely different experience since there’s no ECU to dull the throttle response, just a cable opening the butterflies in the carbureter, no cat-con, nothing. There is a sense of absolute pure motoring. However, I’d advise getting the MPFI because carb parts are getting very tough to source. You’ll get 60hp compared to 50, and you won’t need to search and find an old mechanic to repair / maintain your carb (most Don’t do it these days or do it badly). I’d advise get the MPFI.

How long this car can go? Is it good for long drive given it's 25 years old?
@avinashkanive4 ай бұрын
Yes! I have driven it extensively on highways and done a number of short road trips <6 hours often with the car fully loaded as well. It’s not as comfortable as a newer car, but if you have reasonably thin friends who are okay to have a bit of a laugh, it works out well!

From my opinion better to have new car rather than buying old car coz 1)Insurance rates get higher when car ages. 2)Parts availability is bit of a bummer.
@avinashkanive4 ай бұрын
Of course sir, your opinion is totally valid. However, both these points are completely untrue at least for this car.

That's completely right, but 'Kabhi Kabhi shauk bhi koi cheez hoti hai'. I think tinkering with an old zen is a kind of hobby or pastime which motor enthusiasts would appreciate.

Great video!!! I bought one recelntly and just love it. I just want to knw how much max speed do you extract out of each gear. I have read about people doing 45 kmph in first gear, 80 in second, and 120 in the third. Mine screams like crazy if I try to do this and wanted to know your experience and how much you have pushed this little beast?
@avinashkanive4 ай бұрын
Sounds about right but I personally believe it’s unwise to stress the engine out that much. It’s not a fast car, it’s just a fun little nugget that puts a smile on your face.
@shivadas39644 ай бұрын
@@avinashkanive Yeah, right. But I am tempted sometimes to do this, though I control myself most of the time 😁. Mine revs all the way up to 110 kmph in 3rd and this is my favorite gear 🤩. I give tough competition to bigger cars in the 3rd gear - very versatile gear I must say and how! 💥🚀Lots of fun in the city, but in the highways the bigger cars overtake after 110-120. But still, they go crazy how a decades old old car can achieve this... 😀
@avinashkanive3 ай бұрын
Absolutely. Even my friends sometimes get shocked at how easily it builds speed. 50hp isn’t much but it’s decent when it’s only pushing 750 kg lol

Hi, maintenance is pretty low being a Maruti, parts are generally very cheaply and readily available. You should consider going for it if you're an enthusiast!
