I use tenor ukes with both high g and low. Horses for courses and all that. Low g for jazz picking and chord backing, high g for claw hammer. Get both.

Excellent suggestion! I tell my students to keep their old ukuleles for High G and use their new Tenors for Low G. Perfecto!
@jonathanmann522712 күн бұрын
@@kevrones The fact is now even low end priced instruments are generally well made and playable. You don't need top end ukes/guitars to get a life changing tool. I started playing on the most awful acoustic guitar ever made! I am glad I did.

Low G just makes sense to me. I just made a three knot at the bridge and used the lock method to wind the G nylon guitar string onto the uke. No stress on the bridge or neck, sounds great and stays in tune.

I have made a few Ukuleles recently. Both Tenor and Baritone. I have fitted steel strings and a ghosted magnetic single pick up. I have reinforced the neck with a stainless steel rod. I was inspired by a local expert player, who plays lead in a ukulele orchestra and he wanted to project the sound better. They are all low G . As a CBG guitar Builder, your video has really helped me understand the concept of high and low G string Thanks I will recommend it to my customers.

Great lesson buddy, Im learning the concepts of a uke because I brought my daughter an electric acoustic uke for her birthday. Im a guitarist myself and was surprised how high the g string was, compared to the other three strings. Thanks to this lesson I understand now and will be buying a set of low g strings, because I feel my daughter will be more able to learn easier with a low g. I can help her with her scales now because yes it does sound off with a high g string. Cheers.

They’re both useful. But better learn the more sophisticated four finger voicings if you don’t want to sound “droney” in the low g tuning. Open chords don’t sound as good on a low g. He really didn’t articulate this well, though he almost did (at 12:12)

@QuickStartUkulele5 ай бұрын
The Chords for Low and High G are identical. The strings have the same notes G C E A in Standard tuning. The only difference is the High G has a thin 4th srtring and Low G has a thicker 4th string. If you has a Baritone ukulele - then ALL the chords are different names. Thanks KEV

I've taught 1000's of students. When they start getting better they buy a better ukulele and keep there old one as a high G. Almost none of them every go back to the High G. It's nice to have the option.

Hey Kev, just stumbled across this video and you are indeed the okayist uke player i've ever seen. i never thought this song would be possible at my level but you sure make it seem doable. i understand you are suffering some very serious medical condition and i don't know if you are with us or jamming with Jesus but i'll raise a prayer and remain hopeful you'll help me on my uke journey. God Bless, Mike

Thanks for all this great info. About to get a low G string set on my Kala SMH-T soon. Sounds like I need the wound G for the different sound and more punch, as you say. Trying to decide on brand of strings now. Recommendations ? Thanx. Great playing by the way ! Oh to play like you ! Just started learning uke a little over 2 yrs ago.

You are doing great. I have ONLINE classes every Saturday for beginners Level 1 snd Level 2. Visit thetikination.com and sign up for one. I'll teach you to play like me, I was using Aquilla Round wound strinds - they have the sound I like. The problem with those is they wear out to fast and I had to replace them weekly. (I play a lot). Currenty I use Pepe Romero strings with a Low G. These are not round wound and last a long time. Keep playing!

It's a Funky Strum! I jam with people and use this strum with different progressions. Think of strums as "Tools in your Ukulele Toolkit". All strums can be modified and repurposed. You learn one and put ot in your "Ukulele Toolkit". When you need a "tool" you look in your Ukulele Tool kit of learned techiques. Off hand without a lot of research I can't think of a song list that uses this strum. Most people can't play like Tracy. Shis unique! I do use the techniques from this strum often... mostly because its fun.

Brilliant video. Very informative and useful. As a guitarist on and off for 50 years, I'm now, finally learning the ukulele. My 1st uke, a soprano with high G, I'm undecided if my better quality next one should be concert or tenor. Love your playing so much.
@QuickStartUkulele5 ай бұрын
Rock on! Learning the ukulele will really improve your guitar playing. I also am an avid fingerstyle guitarist. All the chords on the ukulele are 4-string inversions on the guitar - think of it that way when your on your guitar. For me it really opened up a whole new world n the guitar above the 5th fret. Keep playing! KEV
@j5s9cStu9 ай бұрын
I've just started learning Ukulele and never knew about low G. I think as a guitarist this might suit me better. I'm guessing the chords I've been learning on my soprano with a high G, will all be different. Thanks.
@marionrfield7 ай бұрын
No, you play the chords the same way. Don’t worry!!
@QuickStartUkulele5 ай бұрын
Low and High G chords in standard C6 ukulele tuning (GCEA) all have the same names. If you play a Baritone Ukulele the string are tuned like a guitar (DGBE) and have different names, If you play a D chord on the guitar it is a G chord on the Tenor, Concert and Soprano Ukuleles. Keep at it and mosst of all HAVE FUN. That's what it is all about.

I will say that the wound strings are not very good. They do not last and they break easily. I just make sure there is no W behind the numbers.
