Ive seen a few shops do this. They get comics and dont put them out. Making it seem as though they sold out and they donthis to over charge on those comics instead of having to put them on the rack at cover price. I bought spiderman #7 two days aga at Nubury Comics at cover price. People sunscribe to Nubury and sometimes dont pick up their subscription leaving the workers to put the comics back on the rack. 👍🏾

Hey great vid Ik this is an old vid but I want to start reading comics and I don’t understand how a subscription works like for example if it says 28.99$ for a subscription will I just pay that once for the 12 issues then renew it again for the same price and get the next 12 issues or is it that you pay 28$ monthly ? And is it a good idea to start with a subscription when the series has long been started ?

I don't think it will ruin the hobby. You can compare it to the PS5 shortage. Flippers bought them all and sold on ebay creating a shortage. Same thing with spec people like your brother. Buy all the copies sell on ebay. Stores are struggling. Are they really supposed to sell you a copy for $4 when some shmo on ebay will pay $75 for it right now? Baseball card boxes, pokemon, magic, soon that Disney Lorcana will be sold at market value. You think shop bought card boxes for $200? No. I know a shop owner and he gets them at about $50 a box depending on the product and sells at whatever market value is.

Also, not to undermine your ability to sell the copies you have, a Spider-Boy character is the lamest Spider character yet! I'll never get a copy unless someone practically gives it to me for free, which we know will never happen. The biggest problem on display is how hype has made it impossible to maintain a constant run of many titles without paying extra for issues withheld from regular subscriptions paid for! It's literally fraud in the industry...

I agree. Its sad for a reader of a series and for run collectors. It forces that person to pay the hiked up fees. I would just do Comixology if I wanted to guarantee reading a series but I prefer physical copies so I can have a collection. There are so many great characters being introduced all the time so this one is very hyped. However, the hype is a shortcut for tv/movie producers to use as a shortcut to see what character would be popular in live action

MidTown comics has been doing this for years. For example, most recently they stopped sending me the Black Cat right before sending me issue #11. Mostly I'd get shorted on the Amazing Spider-man on issues the turned out to become hot keys. Then in general, shops have been hoarding prospective keys for the past 20 to 30 years. I remember when I originally was trying to find the 1st venom appearances in 1992 in Amazing Spider-man #361 to #363. Freshly received & jacked in price on a multiplier...

Wow. Thats very sad and upsetting. I can also personally confirm that it has been going on since the early 90s. Im glad that there is now a platform like KZbin that allows us to call out issues in the industry and have people talking about it. They only way to improve the hobby is to call this stuff out.

I agree. I wish it wasn’t about making money. Gimmicks is what killed the industry in the 90s with Cover-maggedon. Too many variation in covers to sell more. Now its 1st appearances and the false perception of most comics being a key.

It might be a hot comic right now but once all those comics come back from cgc those resellers are going to flood the market to the point where people will have to sell below market making the price drop little by little. The only people I see buying this comic are resellers.

Thank you for the heads up on Spider boy. If this happened to me then my solution would be to just let it go and not be a fool and pay anything but the cover price for a regular book that has not even come out yet. They can keep their multiple copies and I keep my money. I would no longer buy from this retailer, and I would never buy from them again. I do not begrudge anyone from making a profit, but this is just to underhanded to be allowed. No one expected the sensation that Miles Morales would become years later after his debut. But he is the exception. How many times have these types of situations happened for ultimately the character to be a bust and the values fallen to the ground. And seriously Spider-boy? There are too many Spider characters to begin with. Enough already with the lazy writing.

I purchased a cgc ss from the comic mint for $160 I was then going to purchase a raw copy for $19.99 but when I was able to get back on the site the raws were listed for $32.99 instead of $19.99 . And the one that I paid $160 is now listed at $199.99

It's clearly not the same person lol. But definitely sucks when books get shorted and allocated. Happens all the time with hot books that get heavy orders at the last minutes. Everyone was warmed months in advance for this book even by Dan Slot himself. If anyone missed it, that's solely on them.

Like I said it’s unusual behavior and hard to prove even if it was. Im not the FBI lol. I feel that there are too many hyped insinuations like “buy now”, “the DC universe starts here”, “hot spec”, “Marvels future changes here”, etc that come from creators, influencers, paid influencers, publishers, preview books, etc. So, it makes Dams claim one in many for that week

@Cards and Comics by Charles homie . .all those marketing and selling g points have existed for decades from the publishers themselves. I still remember them from when I was a kid lol it part of the fun of the hobby. There are definitely some BS and shenanigans involved too. But that's 99 percent t of the time from sellers on the secondary market. The publishers are not concerned with flipping books. Just front end sales.

I used to have a pull list to Captain America for years until issue 25 made the headlines. My LCS told me none came and I later found out the owner was putting away for himself, I cancelled everything.

I was quite happy buying all the off shots and events until a certain plot point was never resolved or so I found. It turns out that a issue of ASM became rare and they never gave me a copy and I wouldn't have know due to this plot point. I'm talking over twenty years at this shop, when I confronted the owner telling him I was finished with his store he said "FINE I DON'T CARE".

Well that is the quickest way to lose your whole customer base and word gets around fast. Glad I was able to pick up a copy for $18. Same shop this morning had it up for $30. Fortunately my order had already shipped 😅 Seen a few sold for $70 on EBAY. That is crazy

Having suspicions are one thing, but making a video with speculation but zero actual evidence, especially with sensationalized language in the title and thumbnail like, “Spider-Boy Scams are everywhere,” which again, you have no actual proof of, is very irresponsible. As a dealer yourself, if you did nothing wrong but another dealer or KZbinr made the same video speculating about you, you wouldn’t appreciate it. This seems like it was more about clicks and views than the betterment of the hobby.

You could tell me 1,000 people had their orders canceled, but unless you can offer your sources and they have sometime of evidence to show nefarious intent in those cancellations, you’re still making baseless accusations. BTC is the only retailer you called out. If it’s supposedly happening at many places, why single one specific dealer out over any other? Because someone’s eBay name was “BigTim?” That’s pretty weak. Again, how would you react if someone made the same video about you? And without any actual evidence, you sensationalized your thumbnail and title for clicks by claiming “Spider-Boy scams are everywhere.” Not asking if maybe something fishy is going on but directly naming someone without any evidence. Not speculation, but evidence.

I have no way of knowing if your implied accusation against BTC is true or not. However, Nelson at BTC has a stellar reputation and I've dealt with him a very long time. There has never been even a hint of impropriety in all that time. And the fact that a seller on EBAY with a "similar" name has a large number of copies is by no means proof of anything. If I ran a bussiness using mutiple selling platforms, I would definitly use my "brand" name on all of those platorms so that it's clear who the buyer is doing business with. Why would BTC not have list their entire name on EBAY? It's not a good business move. You're entitled to your opinion...but you should probably have some more facts before assuming something nefarious is in play.

Tracy, neither do I. If in fact it was shady they wouldn’t use their name to brand the shadiness. This is why it is a point of discussion and not an accusation. Im hoping this sparks discussions on how to minimize cancellations on hot products (regardless of the reason) . Also, all the influencers wont bring this up because its hard to call out a big time player If they all know each other. Its a small world out there and theyre easily connected. I don’t mind sharing my opinion and Im also ok with people disagreeing.

Modern comics are based on either hype or movie/show speculation. People do forget that collectible thrive on rarity. Brand new comics have high print runs so unless there is a low print run it wouldn't be rare.

Plenty of people "have this book", it was leaked to be a key by the writer while it was still available for open order. There's no evidence of Big Time Collectibles involvement here whatsoever from what I can see. Looks like it could be a reseller who buys some of their stuff, perhaps but without evidence these are pretty wild accusations.

I'm hoping to spark the conversation around dealers cancelling hot comics. The leaks on keys are rampant and we all know that there really only a few keys each year so these leaks are coming all the time and many are just hype. It's just suspicious that an Ebay with the most copies has a similar name to a company that was mysteriously missing 480 copies in their order

BTC is canceling people’s pre orders on a book we ordered for four dollars a piece and instead are slinging them thru whatnot sellers for $40+ …how are they not involved again? Where are my 5 books and how come they have not shipped or updated my order yet

So many copies out there. I would stay away unless u get it at cover price. These type of books fall drastically in value a month after. FOMO x1000. Don’t spend more than $10 bucks on this book.

Back in the late 80s this shadiness was happening with Batman 428 (death of Jason Todd) where there was sky high demand and sellers claimed to be "sold out", then all these secondary copies with marked up prices appeared from under the counter. Put a serious black eye on the collector's market. Those who don't learn from history...

You're right. Small Comic shops can't take big risks because they barely make anything from selling comic books.It's those big comic shops that can take risks because they have a bunch of stuff to sell besides from comic books.

The big shops have to order a little bit of everything to since they have more customers. When they cancel a "hot" comic or make excuses its suspect especially when you notice it rarely happens but somehow on the hottest comic.

Sent 11 cards to BGS for holiday rush.....mid range value,Wilson Silver prizm auto,couple of Trask RPAs. Just to try out the service. Usually would send PSA. The $50 5 day return seemed alright. 2 months later almost and still no update. I'm gonna end up going to the actual building since I'm 2 hrs away and retrieving my cards. Multiple emails and maybe 1 response saying the order is in invoicing ....for the past month??????? BGS is trash

I was considering sending my sports cards and autographs. But after hearing your experience, I am going to pass on sending my stuff, given their lack of empathy and not caring if things go wrong / missing. Them holding your remaining cards hostage out of fear of litigation is awful! Is there a further update video?

I'm sorry to hear that. I don't think that delivery carries skim through boxes and just take partially submissions. There is something fishy going on with BGS and when I spoke with them they gave me fake sympathy and stated that they are also collectors so they understand. I was like...wait, you also collect!!! It would be nice to do a federal investigation so they can subpoena their employees for submissions in house as well as through PSA, SGC, or other grading companies

I just sent 2 NBA cards to Beckett. I got 1 back but the rookie autographed card got lost during transit. I’ve been bugging them & supposedly they’re gonna open up a claim but, so far nothing has been done!

I doubt that only 1 card was stolen by a mail carrier. They would already be committing a federal crime so why risk getting caught via fingerprints or any other means. They would just steal the entire package IMO. Shady stuff going on at BGS

I understand that it wasn’t them, they did their job grading & authenticating, FedEX dropped the ball! I was told I could request another delivery service. Next time I’m requesting USPS.
