Wow. Cant believe MLO made a sizeable difference in latency. I have an ASUS 6e router atm, should I get a wifi7? I just want the lowest latency that is the most stable without stutters

You may notice the decoding time. Because this is stressing things at godlike 90hz, if decoding time takes longer than the 11ms of 90hz it'll trigger the frame buffering (extra 11ms) So don't really go by the total latency readings, it's so variable and never truly adds up to what you can control (the reported encode, game, transmit and decode) MLO itself in theory shaves a couple ms from transmit but realistically that's not really going to make much of a difference. WiFi 7 only really makes sense when you have much higher bitrates if which none exist on streamers anyway, Pico connect usb can do 1000mbps but it's wireless is only 300mbps for h264, until they allow 1000 for wireless, WiFi 7 is just a luxury thing for avoiding any potential interference

Also worth noting, only Pico 4 ultra supports WiFi 7 and MLO, quest 3 does not, so you'd be wasting money 'upgrading' router for that headset

Amazing review... No B.S and I've learnt a sh*t load from this.. I too received the Dev version with the sticker which (initially made me think the pattern looked like the design on a pair of crocs :-)

Haha, thanks so much! yeah not much left to imagination from stickers, I think it's main purpose was to determine who if anyone leaked headsets before release (as it's said could be told by pattern) 5.12 update just rolled out for everyone now, which has fixed the android stores not working and also introduced the mouse support and the Pico VR mobile app changes shown in video, along with a long line of other fixes and improvements. Will need to do a quick follow up video at some point.

Is anyone having a issue where Steam VR just isn't detecting the headset completely through PICO connect and when trying to play Blade and sorcery through ALVR the game just doesn't show through the headset at all? (I'm using a PICO 4)

No, only Pico connect for now. Pico need to publish openxr extensions for these to work with virtual desktop.

Do you downgrade because it doesn't work for you like it does for me? The app doesn't show me even though its icon appears on the taskbar. The thing is that if I boot Windows in safe mode it does draw the advantage of the application and such, but they have a stupid mania of creating desktop applications with HTML and JavaScript, and I'm sure it's interfering with software. The thing is that they always think of profiles like, Gamer, developer, etc etc etc, and not in mixed profiles, in my team I use software of all kinds of echo I work with it and I have tools like Visual Studio 2022, intelliJ, come on I'm a developer I don't have anything out of the ordinary installed, stream assistant works but pico connect doesn't and so I've been more than 4 months and they don't solve it, I had planned to switch to the pico 4 ultra, but if I'm not going to be able to play PCVR then I don't buy it Reinstalling windows is not an option I have more than 390 apps installed

Could you please tell me what the max. Resolution is if you use a 1000Mbit USB C cable to connect to your MacBook. I have a Quest 2 and Netflix, Prime Video etc won’t render above 720p. I could use HDMI link to connect to my MacBook but that would only give me a resolution of 1080p and it would be nice if I could take full advantage of the 2160p on the Pico when using a USB C cable to then stream 4k Netflix :)

The charging station is fo fast charging and supports both 18 and 45w the USB c port is 18w

Charging station also not fast charging. They recommend a 45w charger as it needs to do both controllers as well The quest 3 just doesn't have any special fast charging, only standard 18w.

Hey mate, great review. Looking to get into VR but its a nightmare trying to find a review longer than 8 minutes that's not blatantly biased. Pico 4 appeals to me as a PC owner whos not a fan of meta. My main concerns are the vibrancy of colours, the locked 360 windows, and the smaller app support. Im primarily going to be streaming from a PC, so i can live without the latter, but do you think it's worth taking a gamble on this over the mainstream Quest 3?

Honestly, it's just something you'd have to try yourself Pico have better comfort, balance and overlap, quest 3 have better lenses but less overlap. Both streaming on VD, ultra just got update that does 600mbps where quest 3 can only do 500mbps (h264+) But then VD can use hand tracking with quest and not Pico yet. As someone who will still choose the older neo 3 link because of display port, I can't really personally say one is better than the other, they are two different headsets and unfortunately you can only understand the look and feel when it's on your head, feature set, os and apps are different which again will need experience to decide what you prefer VR is a massive pain in the ass, there's just no way to show it ( I never do through lenses as that's a waste of time and inaccurate )

@@virtuallyreal appreciate you taking the time to respond, definitely been weighing up the decision a lot. Your video was the best on the subject by far. I think the main thing tipping me towards the Pico was avoiding the Meta ecosystem, but learning that they're owned by the TikTok people kind of made that argument null and void anyways. The quest 3 is about a £100 cheaper right now where I'm at, which leaves me with budget for a BoboVR strap which should help alleviate some of the battery and weight distribution concerns

Neo 3 or neo 3 link? Only the neo 3 link has display port and yes that cable difference is still massive not having compression, overhead or latency Normal neo 3 I really don't know what support is like as that was never sold outside china and does not display port the usb streaming

@@luparindes4081 pro is the enterprise headset and does not include display port or consumer store for standalone apps. While you can workaround and flash firmware and source Pico display port cables from AliExpress, it's a risk and you'd be on your own support wise

@@EisFanLofficiel on PC, you'll need to apply the 'blade and sorcery fix'' that I've done another video for, this gives the bindings back to steam to use For standalone, there was only ever beta apps like blitz rhythm or vrchat, I don't expect any of the newly released games to be able to use these older motion trackers

Potato potatoe. Whatever you prefer to wear, settings wise it's pretty much the same across VD, the ultra can do 600bitrate for h264+ where the quest 3 can only do 500. Quest does have some more options enabled in VD like have tracking simulation but entirely depends what games you are playing that can make use of that

God bless your shining soul. I had a problem where, after I connect to SteamVR, sound would only play from PC speakers/headphones and never from headset (even though headset speakers are functioning fine prior to connecting). I noticed in Device Manager that "Pico Streaming Speaker" driver had a questionmark icon and wasn't working. The fix for me was similar to what you have shown - go to Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Sound -> Playback -> "Internal AUX Jack - PicoStreamingMicrophone" -> enable it and disable it. I have no idea why this worked since Device Manager tells me that the driver is still not working, but the headset sound is now playing normally. Prior to this solution I spent 2 hours losing my mind trying different settings, different cables and ways to connect, reinstalling Pico Connect and Steam VR , restarting my PC and even reseting my Pico 4 headset to factory settings, but nothing worked.

The new pico motion trackers work the same with all the newer headsets from pico (pico 4,pico 4pro, pico 4ultra) just because the ultra has better passthrough doesn't mean it has better tracking cameras. In fact all the pico4 headsets use the exact same tracking cameras so these motion trackers will work the same with all three of them. I am pretty sure you can use them with some of the older headsets too. But if you want to choose between the p4 pro and p4 ultra it basically comes down to: do you want face tracking? Or do you want better passthrough for AR? The pro provides "acceptable" face tracking for social games like vrchat(pcvr only). On the other hand the ultra gives you better passthrough and controllers for augmented reality. Personally I don't have an interest in augmented reality so as a vrchat addict I went for the pro. But it comes down to what you will be using the headset for.

Yep, motion trackers work the same, only thing to note on the pro is that it's only sold in china, so will have china firmware and china store, there are workarounds to get a 'global' conversion but that could be removed at any point

Motion trackers work the same across them both. Pico 4 pro is only sold in china, and has different firmware and different apps available on it stores, you'll need to research what's needed to get a 4 pro working in your country first, flashing firmwares and such.

Im thinking of getting a Pico 4 that I can connect to my PS5 and Xbox Series x consoles. Can you recommend a good quality capture card and extension cable that will work for this set up please? Ideally the overall length needs to be 5metres from console to headset

Hagabis make a capture card that has pd charge pass through and a 2m cable on it I have tested this with my 2m jsaux type C extension and it works well. Small caveat to the hagabis capture card is you need to attach hdmi first, then power (will not work without it) then to headset, or you don't get any image or charge to headset

Hey, I know it's an older video, but I need to "upgrade" my Reverb G2 and the Neo 3 Link seems to be the only affordable option with displayport out there. I need the Pico only for iRacing which does not run over SteamVR on my system, which I'm very happy about. I was wondering, do I need SteamVR to run this headset?

Yes, it's a direct to steam vr headset on display port. Steam vr will be used as the openxr runtime. But don't panic, this isn't the scare like you have using that on something like oculus or reverb G2 adding overhead, it'll be instead like an index. I don't have iracing, but in my test of MSFS that was pretty Equal performance to VDXR when using steam VR as openxr runtime.

Latency metrics read differently and can't be compared. Compression at 1000 bitrate by cable is less noticeable than 500 by VD using h264 codec, which is to be expected but then VD has some more features to improve visuals so can get pretty close. I can't show compression in videos unfortunately

I just hate the guys at Pico... why they didn't add one single feature that makes it better than Q3? I thought multi-tasking... but why do I need 20 screens (Pico4U) when 6 screens (Q3) sounds just fine?! Same resolution, dpi, ppd, display we already saw in Pico4 and about the same as Q3. (just learned HP Reverb hat about the same specs like these HMD... but was released six years ago.. lol no progress at all) Passthrough is better than Q3 but what for? The 32MP cameras actually operate at 8MP and are better than Q3 but there is not a huge difference. And who actually NEEDS passthrough?! Wifi 7 sounds nice but according to user comments is 6e just fine for Q3. And since Pico4U and Q3 are using the same chips, it should be not of a big deal to upgrade Q3 with Wifi 7 in near future. Dammit, just give me a reason to buy Pico 4 Ultra... I am searching for arguments since before its release

They are two very different headsets. Both are better than one another at different things and the only real way you'll know what you prefer or want is putting both on your head and using them, that's the annoying thing about VR Specs can say one thing but aren't the only thing you should focus on, the comfort both ergonomically and visually, the OS, ease of use, feature set and game library is something you need to wear and use the headsets for to get better understanding of 20 windows is maybe overkill to some, but for actually multitasking and being genuinely useful, it's very welcome and something that I personally cannot give up now I have it.

@@virtuallyreal So P4U does not save window positions? This is something I would expect when working with up to 20 window regularly. Especially when using it for work, I wouldn't want to rearrange my workplace every time, several times a day (considering lunch break, meetings/calls, ... edit: I just noticed an error in my thoughts... Those free floating windows... those are special applications that I need to download from some store. And I guess there will be no such package in any store for Visual Studio, cloud services, ... Do you know if any headset supports several Windows desktops next to each other? Windows (pro) shouldn't have any issues as it just thinks it is some multi-monitor set-up. But does Pico/Quest (or Virtual Desktop) support opening more than one Windows Desktop? editedit: Virtual Desktop supports multi monitor VR
