All I know after watching this, is not to listen to self taught hobby paddlers, and that it’s always best to qet your training from well qualified, knowledgeable and experienced people. The give away here, is somehow thinking the long sling spreads the load onto the other side 🤣🤣

By the time you do all these knots and in cold water you probably have Hypothermia. You really need to reconsider this option. If your on a river and its fast flowing and it goes wrong then your foot loop becomes a danger you may not be able to get out off it and your Canoe will kill you. Really dont see why you need this option when you have another Canoe along side you. If your solo you have spent far to long messing around with tape and knots plus you have to empty your Canoe and been in the water far to long. Would like to see you do it on a big river with a loaded boat.

“See how easy that was” while two men are white knuckling the Gunwales together. Lol.

Would have been SO nice if you would have actually pointed the camera AT the knot being tied...😐

If you don't know how to tie the knot you must be the only one watching this.

That's fine, but how often are you going to have a second canoe available at a moments notice?

Using a foot loop, especially one with such a snug fit, in a cold water environment, is something that should probably not be considered. I'm not convinced that it offers any advantage over an assisted rescue if you have multiple boats and paddlers. When the swimmers weight is loaded into the foot loop it is forced underneath the boat, making it hard work to climb onto the gunwale. For a heavy or less physically capable person, an assisted scoop would work very well and would required less afford.

I'm sorry, but the use of the second strap does not distribute the weight better at all. Tied onto the thwart at the near side it exerts the same pressure as the short strap method.
