Superb playing 👏 👌. I only miss ornaments here and there. Is adding ornaments something foolish ? 🤔

Hi Paul: The Warwick Frei sounds very nice indeed, especially in the hands of so skilled a player. Travis Carey made me one and it is has that bell like resonance to it as well. Would that I could do the instrument full justice. This from Travis' blog. thelutesprogress.blogspot.com/2014/06/ Sten.

That was some magnificent playing! I love how your fingers just snap into these complex chord positions so effortlessly, like its nothing. Really inspiring to watch and listen! And that lute is so beautiful! Almost looked golden in your arms. Sure sounded like it!

Am I right in thinking that the Italian lute music of this period was looser than its English counterpart?
@paulkieffer
@paulkieffer 3 ай бұрын
I don't think this is the case. Italian lute music of this period (by the two greatest composers Francesco da Milano and Alberto da Ripa) is among the most sophisticated music in the history of instrumental music. Most of their pieces seem very carefully composed. The generation before (Spinacino and Dalza) was more loose. We have not many examples of English lute music from before the mid 16th century, although we know it was played a lot and in the same ways (dances, intabulations of songs, abstract works). John Dowland likely studied the works of Francesco (N20 and N56 for example)
