This easily has to be The Big O for me. In mecha circles or general old anime circles it’s talked about enough and is recognized as “Batman but he pilots a giant robot and it’s noir inspired” but no one ever talks about the crazy impact it had in the west vs Japan. Context, Big O was intended to always be 26 episodes which it ended up being, but in Japan it only produce 13 eps and end up flopping. Cue to a year or so later and toonami gets the rights to dub and air it and people LOVE IT in the west, so Cartoon Network since they own toonami reached out to sunrise who made big o and funded their second season- but then CN made the wise choice to air season 2 on adult swim instead, so I wouldn’t be surprised if that factor into people forgetting about the show, but you’d think if it was popular enough to get season 2 it be more talk about in anime circles along with other older hits like cowboy bebop, but I guess western fans really come to dislike mechas for whatever reason.

This'll sound pretentious as all hell... But I have 2 sides. One wants to improve my skills so I can show off my amazing art to people and get tons of validation/praise, which gives me more of the warm fuzzy feels that I love so much. The other side isn't interested in compliments and simply wants to do something interesting to pass the time, even sending signals to find something else when I inevitably get bored half way and it becomes a chore.
