Very curious why the pattern turns, not typical for granny squares
@DoraDoes
@DoraDoes 6 күн бұрын
For this design it was to do with the way the stitch patterns interplay. I tend to turn in typical granny squares too as it stops them from going a bit wonky which can happen with larger projects as double crochets have a slant on them.

So, for a glove band which do you recommend? Asking because I’ve had problems with the band becoming too stretched out too quickly. Thanks for the different suggestions.
@DoraDoes
@DoraDoes 18 күн бұрын
Well personally I like the hdc blo or ss blo, or yarn over slip stitch blo. Those have good elasticity. If you’re finding the bands stretch out, you may want to try going down a hook size or too to create a denser fabric. I hope that helps!

Is there a way to create the button hole with the slip stitch? Thanks, appreciate you🧶🧶🧶

I’ve not tried it but you could just crochet a chain (or chains depending on the size of your button). Because slop stitches are so short, this should have the same effect.

I have a question. I made gloves and they fit, but they stretch out once worn a little while. How do I correct this??
@DoraDoes
@DoraDoes 18 күн бұрын
It will depend what they are made from. If they’re wool, giving them a soak, reshaping when wet and drying flat may help.

All crochet will stretch with use. This is why blocking your swatch is important so you know how much stretch the fabric has. Stitch choice is also a factor - some stitches will stretch more than others, some will be more elastic and snap back. Fibre also plays a part. You may be able to wash the gloves to help them back to their original size as they dry. (Think about how jeans stretch with wear but tighten up after a wash) I hope that helps.

Ha - I've found your videos with all the ribbing swatches first - this one is a nice summary for getting a better feel for the ones you really use in your designs. Thanks for mentioning that you've worn your hat several winters already, and it is still elastic. My mother used to knit me sweaters when I was a kid, and the cuff ribbing would always stretch out after wearing them for a season (and more, of course). I always ended up doubling the neckline and threading an elastic through it. I'm one of those people who always changes things around in a bought pattern, so this was indeed very helpful to me. Thank you very much!

I’m so glad you found it helpful. And yes, it’s great to know the properties of each type so it’s fit for purpose. Though it sounds like sewing in elastic is a great repair!

I’ve never taken the time to research how mitered squares were made, so this was very interesting and informative. I love how you can make the square as big as you want by just increasing the chains appropriately. Thanks for the video! A quick question - do you typically crochet in both loops for the first and last stitches of the row? I didn’t notice in the video.
@DoraDoes
@DoraDoes 3 ай бұрын
I’m so glad you found it helpful and informative! To answer, I didn’t crochet in both loops at the start and end of the row but you definitely could if you preferred the look. The reason I didn’t is because I went on the join multiple squares and wanted the row ends more open ☺️

The written pattern instructions say that this shouldn’t be used for baby blankets and I was wondering why?
@DoraDoes

Hi there, because I don’t have my own children and do not submit the finished item for any form of safety testing, I do not feel comfortable recommending this or any of my crochet blanket patterns for babies. I worry about little fingers and toes getting stuck in little holes!

Thanks for the feedback. I just had a look through the video and couldn’t see where it goes off camera. There are parts when it’s in the lower half of the screen but the stitches seem to all be in view. Please do let me know if there’s a specific part of camera. I’ve had people before watching zoomed in without realising so that could also be the issue?

I was looking for how to turn a premade square into a circle, this is not that. You might want to change the name of the video to make it say the opposite
@DoraDoes
@DoraDoes 7 ай бұрын
Thank you so much for letting me know the title got turned about - I’ll update it to correct. If I were to turn a square into a circle, I would probably try the inverse of what I did here with taller stitches across the long edges and shorter ones in the corner - though I’ve not explored that technique!

Hi Dora! Great tutorial! I am looking for a sleeve technique since I don’t like the sleeves in my current pattern at all! How do you decide on the 61 (or 83) SC preparation row in the beginning of your project?
@DoraDoes
@DoraDoes 9 ай бұрын
Hi, glad you found it helpful. So I extrapolated this technique from various knitting books and the length of the first “long short row” will influence the shape of the sleeve cap. Essentially I worked up to the shoulder seam and then a bit further (if memory serves it was about 1/6th of the circumference) so the first short row is about 1/3 of the total armhole circumference. TY sts the starting point I worked with and ironed it out in testing! I hope that helps.
