Hi Axon! Amazing work! I am now working on the same kit and would appreciate your assistance. I have the Platinum Edition kit and photo etch kits from RCSUBS. It appears that the Yankee Model Works/Blue Ridge Model upper pressure hull is no longer available. I would appreciate if you can share or reference your sources so that I can scratch build the upper pressure hull, limber hole bracing and the other parts that you scratch built. Please let me know how to exchange contact info privately.

Lovely work, but did late model U-boats with snorkels also have the bow net cutters ? All the literature I have says the cutters were ordered to be deleted early March 1941 - they were all gone by June. Snorkels started happening years later.
@dendret2 жыл бұрын
Hello Andrew, well, thing is your right, ...... I to did not find a picture which had a snorkel and a net cutter together.... I just couldn't resist putting one on, it's such an important element to the menacing look of the boat, and a bit of artistic licence to and perhaps just one boat had both at some point,,.......anyway , Best, Graham

She's a big ol girl with tons of room for added details. I would really enjoy seeing one with your skill tackling the same, ever considered the under taking?

Outstanding! Hi, I'm the letter cutter you spoke to outside the V&A today, very glad to see your work on a screen at home where I can appreciate the details and colouring. Amazingly realistic, I love all the weathering and the exquisite construction of the gun emplacements in particular. Was this all recreated from an extant U-Boat, or from photos? Be great to know what it was painted with too. I hope to see more of the piece with cobbled streets when you're ready!

Wow, great work! Excellent detailing, and well done on the weathering! Funny as I was a shipbuilder myself and have seen how tight spaces can be, so i definitely appreciate you showing off the details especially the waterline shell plate corrosion. very accurate, weld seams are rarely touched and hold up better than the plate itself. I'm now inspired to build one myself, good size and would make a fun diorama in drydock. Keen to get my hands working after 10 years off modelling. Did you end up going with the Revell kit for this? And did you use any smaller manufacturers for the details?
@dendret4 жыл бұрын
Hello Darius, thankyou very much for those comments, yes it is the Revell kit, but if your going to build a sub have a look at a new kit coming out soon .....Das Werk U Boat U9 ....its a WW1 boat 1/72 ,but unlike my boat there aren't any detailing sets yet, photo etch ,resin etc , with the Revell kit I used Griffonmodel.com photoetch for the guns and an Eduard set to for the deck and hull , the rest as you know are scratchbuilt. As for technique for how the hull texture was achieved etc, have a look at my replies on one of my other replies to people, in one of the six parts somewhere, there aren't many so not to arduous to sift through. Anyway, really appreciated your comments, especially about the weld seams.Best Axon
@thediddly4 жыл бұрын
@@dendret i will most definitely look into it, and thanks for the recommendation! Can't say I'm a big fan of Revell anyway so that comes as welcome relief. I was commenting on how well you represented the weld seams without corrosion, vs the the shell plating with corrosion as the welds themselves have a better chance of standing up to the elements than the parent metal from my observation. Also noting some other comments you were saying that you have reference photos? If you were still prepared to share my email is [email protected] Thanks again!

What colours did you use for the main hull and deck
@dendret4 жыл бұрын
Hello Robin , just seen this , the hull was not a specific bought colour , more like a mix of all the references I have , sort of bluey ,sea grey really , then weathered with various oils , Paynes Grey , Burnt Umber, and a touch of Sap Green lower down the hull . The deck had an acrylic base , very pale woody , beige /tan colour , dulled with a bit of black , then oils on top , I try to keep the oils used transparent ,as you can build up the layers by using glazes which hopefully makes it look more depthful , you just have to wait a couple of days for each layer to dry. The colours used were Raw Umber, Paynes Grey, Sap Green , Raw Sienna , black , as for the rust , oils to, Burnt Sienna for fresh rust and Burnt Umber for the older rust,.........hope this helps , Best , Axon
