It seems like the planks are flat sawn. Am I seeing that correctly?

I feel so unbelievably lucky to visit friends and the my most amazing family in Norway. My first trip I was 11 years old and my parents sent me alone to visit the country my Grandparents came from. It was a magical experience that to this day I can remember every moment. From my arrival on Strøno exploring these idyllic places rowing a Oselvar that for so many years belonged to my grandmothers brother…that eventually unbelievably for period in time was mine. It truly was my favorite mode of transportation for so many years of visiting eventually bringing my own children. This video has brought back so many memories. I have the ability to travel to most anywhere on our planet but time after time I am pulled to go back to Strøno and surrounding Osøyro “Os”. The hold on me that this land has is so powerful. That first summer friends and family some spoke no English and I ingen norsk. I learned more about what is good in life than can be possible. If you are from here possibly you remember that crazy American family of 5 rowing in search of the best ice cream in the world. How lucky have I been.

sincerely, one of the most beautiful videos I have seen about building amazing boats, for every detail, from done in deep knowledge to paddling with clear understanding of what a good technic is. Thank you all, it has been a real pleasure. Having one of your boats I would feel just like being millonaire, no much more desires to fulfill... to paddle or sail such a piece of art, what else?

A wonderful and thoughtful video production. It is comforting to know that these skills are being preserved, fostered, and taught to continue a fine tradition of boat building. I would love to visit your campus some day. Perhaps when my wife and I finally get to Norway we can make a visit. Tusen Takk!! Vince 👨🌾

lovely boats. are there sail variants, or are they strictly rowboats?
@BigFiveJack5 жыл бұрын
Start watching at 8:09 and promptly you'll hear the narrator speak of sailing these boats, also you'll see at least one rigged with a sail, including a short close up peek before you reach the 8:40 point. Enjoy!

beautiful boats , any amount of great wood by the looks of things in your forests , must be a pleasure to work with those materials and good teachers .I'm planning something like this next spring with my own wood , hope it turns out as nice as yours.

What I am really admiring in this video is the peaceful and serene look on these people's faces and their musical body motion which seems to be related to the elegant lines of the boat. Wood carries with it a character that belongs to nature and it is all due to the lack of monotony of the grain in the natural wood. The dynamic lines of the boat seem to be due to the natural static lines of how the planks are allowed to take a natural curve. If wood is oiled or varnished so much the better as with paint the one colour patch seem to create a monotonous effect on the scenario. One cannot beat natural wood and its natural grain especially if it is matched properly to the role it needs to play . Being close to nature does permit a peaceful state of mind to be achieved in all those who work close to nature. Congratulations to all the people in this video on their skills and the atmosphere they create when working close to nature. Well done.

Hi, nice made ... which type of wood it´s made from? Pinus strobus or Pinus cembra?
@TheMovieCreator8 жыл бұрын
None of them in fact. The main wood used is Pinus sylvestris, while the stem is made from hard wood such as oak.

I wish I could build one of these. But being in the west of the USA, it's hard it find people who have experience with it. Land lock also plays a part to. Love the video.

Brilliant! Love the push-pull rudder and the balanced oars. It is a shock that anyone would go out and buy a plastic toilet seat of a boat when they could have one of these.
