First of all, they left out the best pellet stove on the market. Comfortbilt. This year i have 3 lifts of pellets for under1K to heat the house for all season right to May if needed. That is cheap in my books!! Also have a battery back up if power goes down so no issue of no heat ever it is also solar powered generator. I have had wood in the past and must say pellet stove is much more convenient with less mess and ease of operation and possibly cheaper to run than most wood stoves except something like a Blaze King now that is a wood stove. I am located in Ontario Canada under 1K for heating season in total is cheap and have hade this pellet stove for 4 years now with no issues love it 🙂

Where would you store hundreds of bags of pellets. Not to mention the price. Cord wood is more efficient, more cost effective and the wood can be stored outdoors.

Garage or basement or even outdoors they are bagged in a waterproof bag? no issue whatsoever also if outdoors just cover the skid with a tarp if you are worried. Price? well around here under 1K for the whole heating season is pretty good in my books Also i have used both a pellet and wood stove they are booth good but i do like the pellet stove a little more just saying. 🙂

You haven’t mentioned Rocket Mass Heater’s or pellet stoves that do not need electrical power. Liberator stove is UL listed.

@American-OutdoorsNet 18 сағат бұрын
Yes, the Liberator is a nonelectrical duel fuel unit that is American made. While they are efficient stoves, they are not true pellet stoves nor considered turn key. We may do a video on the Liberators sometime in the future. Thanks for watching.

In 2021 I purchased a house with electric baseboard heat and no furnace. It has a wood burning stove in the center of the home and we use it every day during the cold months. Most people are shocked by the fact that we only heat with wood. We have had some power outages and never had a problem. Yes it is a little bit of work every day to clean and re-start, but our electric bill is $40 a month ($7 for actual use the rest is taxes and fees). Ho! by the way I'm 72 and I cut, split, stack and use 7 cords of firewood each season.

No mention of black walnut? It’s good wood but takes along time, 2 to 3+years to dry out. Burns hot and lasts along time. I like to mix ash, basswood and ironwood , red elm, locust, hickory or any fruit wood. I use some cedar when handy. Hickory and oak is good too. 2 to 2 1/2 cord per season. Even heat is much nicer than forced air propane furnaces. From southwest Iowa

Showing a woman using a chainsaw above her head, with no protective gear at all negates any of this show and tell. For those of us who heat 100% with self harvested firewood for decades one needs to use the species in their region. Period. Sorry this has some valuable info...BUTT !

@American-OutdoorsNet
@American-OutdoorsNet 4 күн бұрын
It all pretty much comes down to preference. Mica style heaters have their niche and fall somewhere between an infrared and ceramic style unit, but they still consume and release the same amount of energy as the other models. Thanks for tuning in!

I put up a cord of wood mid-August this year, it was fresh cut from logs that had been down for a year. Been off the ground, lightly covered, since Sept 1st... no rain since then, ... oak, maple, ash and a little apple and walnut. I am planning to burn 1 piece of that wood with 3 pieces of wood that's 9 to 24 months seasoned

Heat with wood, exclusively pine. We had the pine bark beetle go through here a couple decades ago. Standing dead pine everywhere so do not have to season very long. Most of our towns have wood heating regs which require an afterburner. Lowers particulate in the air. Rurally we do what we want.

But firewood heats you several times, cutting the trees, cutting up the trees, disposing the slash, hauling, splitting and stacking the firewood, hauling the wood into the house, hauling the ash out. But then there is the cost of the chainsaw, the pickup to haul the wood, the cost of replacing the rear cab window of the truck which was broken when pitching firewood into the bed, the cost of the chimney swift .and of course the cost of the divorce and the lawyer.

what about aspen? It's like the most widely available wood in my woods. it's a fast growing soft wood each tree can live up to 50 years or until the wind blows it over. I have so many to clean up throughout my woods so it's my primary wood to burn. It's also called popple, probably cause it snap, crackles, and pops more than other woods as it burns.

Nothing compares to Osage Orange. I have cut it and burned it for 50 yrs. Had to stop using cast iron stoves as it would warp them. Made my own 3/8th inch steel stove with angle iron buttresses. Warped it as well. Now I have a soap stone stove. Not only the highest BTU wood but also the heaviest wood. You can also burn it as soon as you cut it. I had cut a 40" diameter trunk and left it whole to come back to get it later. Someone started a fire on it. Like coal, once it starts on fire, you're not going to put it out. Easy to split when green. Full chisel chain on a Stihl Farm Boss .041, also 50 yrs old. Has to burn in a stove as it is a sparkling wood. Even in a stove, you have to be careful when reloading a fire as a sudden rush of air will start it spraying embers. Oak is a joke. Black Locust was much better. But nothing equals Osage. I have wood cut and stacked that is 40 yrs old and it never rots. With farmers no longer planting hedge rows, I hate to cut it. The one drawback...lots of ash.

My dad use to tell me stories of burning hedge. It was ok would burn so hot that the heating pipes in his trailer would glow white. Taking them to near molten temperatures. Definitely not something that should be used lightly. As for locust on this list yep it’s dense but the short rose like thorns make it very undesirable to work with

This is my 51st year heating my homes with ONLY wood. I've found red and white oak ,seasoned for 2 full years excellent. Ash types also burn long and hot. But starting with lesser hardwoods and even some soft varieties make "getting it going" much easier. Biggest mistake people do burning wood are as follows. Too large a diameter chimney flue. Too short a chimney,causing poor draft. And finally 2 very important issues. One-- burning unseasoned wood with water +sap content high. Two not using creosote remover / preventer often enough. Both those lead to dangerous conditions Burn safe and learn for a year or two before going wood ONLY. Be safe not sorry.

Often ignored fact but oak really does need 2 full seasons to completely dry. It will burn after one year but if you've ever burned oak seasoned for 3 to 5 years you know what I am talking about.

@davidcarpenter8741 that's been my experience too. 48 years ago a coworker had retired and had a garage which contained white oak cut split and kept in under cover for about 20 years. She wanted it " out" and I gladly hauled it home to my woodshed. That "old and extremely dry" wood burned beautifully. I had anticipated it would not hold fire long and and quick burn like Aspen. Not so. Burned long and kept coals.
